Samsung Series 9 or better yet the Lenovo X220. I'd personally go for the Lenovo X220 (With an IPS screen). It's better in almost all respects.

    Get the Dell XPS 15 (L502X) :)

It's affordable, it's rather pretty, and at the same time, it's screen (granted you get the screen upgrade) is better as compared to the MBA and MBP's.

Though, if you want the smaller ones, I'd definitely second the reccomendation of the X220, but they're rather pricey.

The Dell XPS 15 doesn't compare to an Air in any way though...

OP maybe look at some ultrabooks, the Asus u21 is a nice looking one.

Damn I was gonna suggest ultrabooks but forgot.

The OP wasn't specific about what he/she wanted :<
Just making suggestions that might balance both portability and performance out.

In terms of performance, the XPS 15 obv comes out top. And the lovely screen too.

But if you're gonna go entirely for portability with getting a slight sub-entry level graphics card, then sure, by all means, if youre gonna go for an ultrabook, get the Air.

I seen the new Series 9 in the flesh yesterday.

The screen is excellent, way better viewing angles than your average TN screen, better than the MBA too IMO. Vertical viewing angle went the full range without changing colours. Build wuality seemed great too, would have bought it if it was a couple of hundred quid cheaper!

Ray if you like the look of this and money is no object there's a 15" version out soon, maybe next month, but I'd say it could cost loads more.
