Could be any number of things to be honest. Anything from a split vacuum pipe to a blocked EGR to air flow meter. You need a diagnosis by a competent mechanic to proceed. 50 euro is not an unreasonable amount to pay for a plug in.

Where in the country are you located? there may be someone near you with VCDS to run a scan for you.

I'm in Kildare,if you are in that area then i would try sort you out with a scan.

Having worked on Seats for a number of years, my money would be that this man is correct.

Might be the MAF as others have said. That needs diagnostics to be run while on a drive to confirm. MAFs are expensive, so I wouldn't recommend going straight out to buy one unless you're sure it's the problem.

Cheap things to check are fuel and air filters. If they're clogged, the engine doesn't get enough air or fuel and loses power. OP: any smoke from the exhaust?

Slightly less cheap fix (depends on how good you are at doing your own maintenance) is that the control vanes on the turbo are not sooted up. If they are, the turbo won't give enough boost, and you'll be down on power. This may show up in a diagnostic scan run while driving, if the car is consistently making less boost than requested.

Also on the slightly less cheap side is intake manifold clogging, though I doubt this should be any way significant unless the car has been running very badly for a long time. This happens when oil vapour from the turbo bearings and crankcase vent mix with soot from the EGR to create a coating of gunk on the inside of the manifold. So unless the car has been smoking a lot for a long time, it shouldn't be an issue.

You can buy the scanner yourself for a tenner so i wouldn't pay him anything. If you're getting the work done with him he shouldn't charge you for diagnostics.
