So i bought a car 2 years ago and replaced the battery with a brand new one as it was dead as a dodo. Unfortunatly I have not ran the car in 2 years since.
Should i even bother to trickle charge this battery or is it a write off?
When i initially got it i ran the car for an hour.

Charge it and see what happens. I've had batteries take serious abuse and survive.

If it has'nt run in two years I'd be concerned about the timing belt,
    if it has one.

With the last few winters I bet the battery will be fecked. As for the timing belt, all rubber items will get perished over time. It should be changed every 80000 miles or ten years whichever comes first, however with a car standing out in all weathers for two years I think it may be a safe bet to replace it along with your alternator belt.

Degrades with lack of use. Air / Moisture attack and it makes the belt brittle.

Really? is it that the flexing of it through use helps to keep it from getting brittle. Kind of makes sense when you think about, although I would of initially thought, less use better condition goes a bit against the grain like.
Presumably that applies to all the bit of rubber on car, belts and CV boots like.

Although not mine, I know of two that snapped after being laid up.

If that timing belt was well used at the time I definitely change it. Even if it was fresh get it checked by a mechanic for signs of weakness such as cracking. You could have other hidden issues such as rusty brake lines. Is it NCT'd.

Use a mains battery charger and leave it on for at least 24 hours. Should be fine. Jump starting possibly won't be of much use.

No its Due its NCT ages ago. Im going to sell it,
Should I bother putting her through through the NCT or just flog her "AS IS" shes a 99 206 with a 1.4 liter engine? Im not sure if all the bother of putting her through the NCT will reward much more cash really so maybe not worth it.
It passed the last NCT allright
Thats interesting about the timing belt! Thanks for all the info guys:)
