I stumbled across this during the week, and can't find any mention of it on here so I'm posting it as it may be useful to some of ye. Darktable appears to be similar to Lightroom but is open source. Runs on Linux and there's an experimental release for Mac OSX. http://www.darktable.org/

It's available in a repository in Ubuntu. (I'm not sure if it's in the base distribution repository, or one of the add-on ones I use.. but it makes it really easy to install.) There's a set of experimental plugins as well, and there's information on color profiling with it as well.. so I'll have to check that out.
