4X4 sale query

I've advertised my 4x4 Landcruiser for sale today and have been bombarded by enquiries from UK numbers. The story goes that they have reps in Ireland going around snapping up 4x4s for export first to the UK and then to Africa.

Obviously I am suspicious of it but there is cash on offer with one outbidding the other.I have been in contact with the guards and they haven't heard of any scams of this sort.

I met with one of these reps this evening that has promised to come with a holding deposit and his boss arrives to takes the car and pay the balance of the cash Saturday.I insisted that he bring his id and meet at the police station tomorrow and he had no problem with that.He also claims to live locally and says he owns a pub in the city.

Since then I've had a call from Dublin with a guy who wants to arrive in the morning with 500 more than the price I half agreed with the other guy. When I say half agree I am seriously suspicious still by all the interest in a 12 year old vehicle.

What's my line here and has anybody else come across this?

Btw I had the vehicle advertised on adverts.ie for four weeks without a single query despite plenty of views?

No first-hand experience but I have read on forums of this practice and yes it does go on as you have described.

Suggest you only deal in 'Johnny Cash'

They're especially fond of Toyota pick-ups, they fit a 50-Cal gun on the bed real well

Ask them are they happy too withdraw the money in a bank branch and then pay it directly into your account

Apparently there is a big demand for the older Landcruisers in Africa, so it could well be legit. What exact model do you have? (have you a link to the ad?)

Look for a €500 non refundable deposit from the guy who wants you to hold it until saturday, you can't loose if his boss doesn't show. Tell other buyers you are holding until saturday but take their numbers and get back to them if the original deal falls through.

Yes I've now heard this from a few sources that they export the vehicles packed with electrical items for large profits in Africa.

Just as an update on this, I went ahead with the sale this evening.
Got a call from Dublin and agreed a deal for cash.Three Indian lads arrived had a quick look at it and paid me the money in cash no more haggling or hassle.Got a lot more than I expected to get when I was advertising and thought I would have a long wait in the current climate. So obviously very happy with the transaction and the lads were sound to deal with.
Thanks for the feedback here much appreciated.

How close was it to the asking price, if you don't mind? Interesting story, keep hearing of people selling big motors for export, lads turning up willing to pay asking price.

btw. well done on the sale, well wear to new owner.

Full asking price I had lads out bidding each other I gave them 50 for the road as the tank was close to empty and I was expecting to have to settle for a 10-20% drop in price before moving it on.
Obviously these are in high demand for export they seem to be genuinly travelling the country snapping up decent 4x4s Pajeros Toyotas and Shoguns are on the shopping list from what info I've picked up the last few days.
In hind sight I could have advertised at a higher price with the interest shown.Deffo 20+ calls in a 24 hour period all offering to travel with cash in hand.
I'm happy enough as I got more than I paid for it 12 months on from purchasing myself.
Having a bit of gamble in my bones helps when deciding to take a chance too despite scepticism.

If you are willing to go through the wringer checking people's credentials and the cash is not fake then I don't see the harm.
There's a market somewhere these guys are just getting a handle on it
