Hi, few days ago I bought a damaged repairable car, it has nct the tax is just out. I still didnt get the log book , but on the copy of the previous owners log book it says on the notes/ restrictions area that the car is exempt from vrt before July 2012 . I never got to know the owner because the car was bought from salvage sales. I dont really know what are the consequences , does that mean I have to pay the VRT or is it the rule of previous owner as he broke the rule and the car was sold before the July 2012 ?? Of course the car has normal Irish reg.

Any help in figuring that out will be greatly appreciated,
    Huge Thanks,
    Cheers !!!

Nope, most lightly the last owner was diabled and exempt from vrt and tax. Makes no odds to you, when you get your logbook that will be removed and it will be business as usuall with the car.

There is usually a 2 year 'stay' on these exempt cars. The revenue will chase the previous owner for the percentage of the vrt and vat saved relative to the amount of the 2 years that they did not keep the car. If there was an insurance pay out, the owner most likely settled this with revenue in order for them to be able to proceed with getting another car under the exemption scheme.
I would try to find out the status of the car by calling the relevant people just to be sure
