Waterproofing my Camera for Travelling

Hi,

Im going to Thailand in a few weeks..going to the island and then up north for Songkran (which involves lots of people throwing water at each other)...

anyway, I really want to take pictures at all these great events and locations but am afraid of water/sand damage to my canon ixus 115 camera, and ipod touch....

can anyone suggest any waterproof cases...I've seen a few but would like to know if anyone has purchased these and what they thought...

The aquapacs look like the best option if they're cheap enough get more than one. If your going to be near a beach you should keep the camera in the pac all the time, sand is just as bad as water for messing up a camera.

myself and the girlfriend are travelling to Thailand around the same time - I would suggest you either don't have your camera with you for songkran or keep it well secured.

Arm yourself with a super soaker and enjoy the fun.

We'll be going to Chiang Mai then Koh Samui and Bangkok for the final few days, we'll be on Koh Samui for Songkran....we leave on the 6th April from Dublin.

Where are you headed ?

@borderfox ....defo cant use a ziplock bag - the heat and humidity in the air as well as the huge amount of water being thrown about leads to serious condensation issues, unless you use the ziplock bag without fully locking the bag to allow air flow in and out of the bag(or throw a few silica gel packages into the mix)

@PCPhoto, was debating about not taking my camera with me that day, but i think it may be an experience which I want to capture..really hope these waterproofing bags work Am headed to Bangkok first, then Ko Tao, Ko Phanghan, Ko Samui then Chiang Mai for Songkran, then back to Bangkok!! 3 weeks in total!!

we'll be in koh samui for songkran and bangkok for a few days...we're doing chiang mai at the start.

was talking with friends who have been to it and was told people will deliberately try to soak a camera if they see it, dont be worried/annoyed if a kid or an adult comes up to you and rubs flour on your face - its also part of songkran festival celebrations.

I bought a load of disposable cameras the time I went to La Tomatina and left my camera somewhere safe.

For the most part the cameras where completely destroyed by tomato juice but I got a few photos out of it. Including tomato splatters. The guy in the photo place wasn't all that thrilled when he saw the state of the cameras.

It's not just the water and sand you need to guard against, there is very high Humidity in That part of the world which can wreak havoc on your photos in the short term and camera in the mid to long term.
