    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anybody knows, if you are a sole trader and you have 1 business and that business is registered for VAT and that sole trader decides to open a second business is that second business automatically registered for VAT /Is it mandatory that the second business register for VAT or can one business be VAT registered and the Second new business not be.

    All info welcomed.

I would imagine that as a sole trader, anything you do in business is all part of your business. So if Ashling's Car Wash is trading away nicely and you decide to set up Ashling's Mechanics, it all comes under the one name irrespective of the product or service offered. You are basically running one business with two or more sections.
What does your Vat registration cert say? Is it in your name? If it is, rest assured that all work you do is liable for vat.
