One thing that i couldn't fully work out is this mentioned in E1 about Anakin being the chosen one was this ever fully explained? For example two ways of looking at it:

He brought balance by killing Palpatine (i'd imagine most likely the case)

He brought balance by helping destroy the Jedi IE the prophecy was misundrstood and Anakin did to a point bring balance in that there were only a few jedi left and two Sith (Balance). I realise that is a stretch but i kinda like the idea of this one.

Was it ever fully touched on in the books/extended universe.

I always figured it related to killing the Emperor, & that his destiny, as Kenobi put it in Ep3, was to 'destroy the Sith, not join them'. I think it was misread in that it wasn't as simple as simply destroying the sith, it took a lifetime & many deaths for him to finally fulfill it.

One thing that makes me wonder is if what Yoda said about the darkside (Hard to see but in a different reference) has a hint into how much the Jedi actually know about the chosen one, they know he's the chosen one but they don't know how he'll act on it, after all they didn't want him at first because they couldn't see his future.

In the end it was probably answered when he killed the Emperor at the cost of his own life which killed the Sith power so the prophecy was filled.

The way I understood it was that it was actually Luke who the prophecy was about and not Anakin

Vader is the one who turned though, & actually made the difference. Luke was more or less defeated, simply pleading with his father to act. I suppose though in a way he was the catalyst for Vader to turn.

But my understanding of 'balance' is equal measure of light & dark. If you eliminate the dark, you have disturbed the balance etc...

Who chose the chosen one? Certainly the Jedi council didn't want to?! (but I guess the medichlorians (sp) did eh?)

'Balance' is only a term, a wording/interpretation of the prophecy by the jedi. Remember Obi Wan elaborated on it on Mustafar..."It was said you would destroy the Sith not join them! You were meant to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness."

This tells me the prophecy, in the eyes of the Jedi, was the destruction of the Sith. Which is ultimately, what Anakin achieved.

Had to edit my original post as I left out a word. (Power rather then the whole)

Even though the Emperor was killed he didn't actually die, the books might go into more detail but if the movie series had continued it might have followed that story and the rebuilding of the Empire.

By killing the Emperor (Even temporarily) a balance was brought, both sides didn't have over whelming power.
