Just looking for a bit of advice...

Neighbours 2 doors down have a husky (massive dog, prob shouldn't even be kept in a back garden) that's for another day.

I have sent an annonymous letter saying do you know your dog barks all day etc last Tue just advising if they are aware it howls all day, nothing done. I work nights and it's getting too much now.

Form 8am - 7pm there is nobody in the house, so the husky howls all day long...

Really need advice on this as it is driving me mad.

    Thanks.

Why dont you go and actually speak to your neighbours instead of hiding behind an anonymous letter. You might get more done that way.

Poor husky. As a husky owner in a mid terrace house with a not so big yard, the yard isn't the problem. The owner is.

Huskies need a LOT of excercise. My fella is out at 7am for a 5k, In the yard from 9-1.30, I'm home for an hour at lunch which involves training and mental stimulation. Out again after work at 6 for a good 7-10k. Back in the house for attention for an hour before bed. He NEVER howls. Ever. My neighbours are elderly and home all day and can't believe how good he is.

Its clear it's bored out of his or her mind. What the law can do for you, I dont know? I've read posts on here and the cops or dog wardens are apparently powerless in cases like this.

I feel so sorry for both you and that poor dog. If you annoy the owner as much as their dog annoys you - they're probably in a stronger position to have the cops knock on your door!

true, a well exercised indoor dog is a quiet dog.

Andreac, that is the next step, I don't want to offend quite yet as I do know they love the dog.

This is the awkward situation if the letter and even myself is ignored what steps can be persued without causing offence.

it's a fantastic dog but I can see why it would howl all day, tbh I aint sure it is walked all that often from what I know, the odd evening, but everyone in the house would work all day.

Thanks for the advice though, tbh I am 2 doors away and its dreadful for me, may knock in next door and see their take on things and perhaps knock into the owner then.

Huskies are quite dogs IF they are exercised properly, i have a husky and is given an hour walk/run each and every day of the week and he hardly ever howls

Probably is a case of the poor thing isn't getting enough exercise. Glad to hear you say they love the dog though, means it's not being too neglected.
Can I ask how the letter was worded? Is there anyway they can take it wrongly? Letters are tricky and even the nicest ones can be so easy misread as annoying neighbours being noisy.
Are there any dog walkers in your area that you'd be able to suggest to them? Wouldn't hurt for someone to call into the dog during the day to walk him

He is lovley dog too, as are all huskeys, well loved indeed.

The body of the letter just said you are prob not aware that the dog howls all day, the letter couldn't be nicer.

the way things are tbh, I my offer to walk the dog when I have time if it means the dog stops howling, it would be no hassle as have to walk my own anyway, good idea actually.

That sounds like a really nice idea! I'm sure they'd really appriciate the offer too. I have to say you're the nicest person I've come accross complaining about dogs howling- normally it's all negative about dogs and angry (I once had a woman threaten to throw poisioned meat over my back wall or sew up my dogs mouth!)
I hope it works out for you and the huskey :)

It's funny, given the OP's username, that the complaint regards a Husky !!! In any event, OP, you're on a loser here. Howling/Barking dogs are win win in this country.

    Hey Alaska1,

I feel your pain. 3 doors down from me, same story family with a labrador and I too work shift.

We've been there a year and I'm actually starting to tune it out a little.

I too wanted to call into the house and talk with the owners and offer to walk the dog when I had free time as we live near a park but the OH said no as it might turn into trouble further down the line. The area we live in is not the best.....

I'm curious to see if you have any success. Good Luck!!

It's probably not simply a case of lack of exercise. Dogs are very social animals. It's probably looking for company. My dog gives me a bark at my window everytime he wants to come in and hang out with me.

as I said earlier "a well exercised indoor dog is a quiet dog." I own an Alaskan Malamute and find it sad when people get these spitz dogs and dont socialize with them or exercise them.

Indeed.. And I'd instinctively, they are a pack dog not being too far removed from a wolf. Company is probably a necessity for them. I just don't understand people who get a dog and don't keep it company. A walk once a day simply isn't enough.

If all fails you can get a sonic bark stoppa from most good pet stores they work a treat and can go up to fifty feet ...:D but im sure there is something the dog protection people can do if the dog is being neglected and not being walked .. but wat would the neighbours think of you then:confused:
