    Hi,

I want to buy an ipad as a present. I was going to purchase a refurbished ipad first generation. Would I be wasting my money.

    Thanks.

Kind of depends who you are buying it for and why.

Well they wouldnt be major into gadgets etc. Uses laptop sitting on couch for work for reading up articles etc etc, got the iphone as a present a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it. And I just though of the idea of an iPad for an upcoming birthday. I think the price of the iPad 2 was a little much to spend on someone who has a decent laptop (work) already.

Can you wait a week ?
All the prices will change - perhaps even the refurb prices.
If someone wasn't into tech at all - I'd say ipad1 for a cheap price is a decent present. But if someone knows a bit, and if they used to iphone, maybe then they know enough to know its the cheap option:D
But either way ipad3 being announced next week so ipad1 & 2 should devalue accordingly. Depends when the birthday is I guess :P

Either way I wouldn't pay serious money for the ipad1 - how much are they on refurb store ?

I just checked - there are 2 ipad1's on there at the moment. both wifi only - both from April 2010 - a 32gb one for 385 and a 64gb one for 469.

Personally I wouldn't pay that. But like I said - check it again after March 7th.

    Here is where to look

Personally I'd recommend you save half the price & get something like this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/A1CS-X220-TABLET-ANDROID-1080P/dp/B004F33FJ6/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1330635683&sr=8-12

If they're already familiar with the iPhone an iPad's operating system, feel & features won't provide as much novelty as the above, which is a completely different device, yet in many ways superior. Not least due to the access to Android Market you don't get with an iPad. Has a bigger screen, built-in GPS, HDMI & automatic rotating screen. Only catch is it only has 4GB disk space, but has USB & Micro SD ports so any more disk space is unecessary, particularly when you can pick up USB keys on Amazon for £2.

If they don't ship to Ireland use these guys:
