Just a quick question to see if anyone has any opinions. I have been looking around at jobs advertised recently, particularly abroad and this is something that seems to crop up repeatedly, the Big4 trained requirement, or at least mentioned as experience of the successful applicant.

Firstly:
For those of you who didn't train with the Big4, were you ever successful in applying for a position that mentioned Big4 in the job advert? How much emphasis do recruiters put on Big4 experience when choosing between a Big4 with say 3 years experience, and a non Big4 with 5? How much practice or industry experience do you need to get under your belt before people will overlook the fact that you didn't train with the Big4?

Secondly:
How easy is it for an accountant qualified in small practice/industry to get a job with one of the Big4 for a few years just to get that for CV reasons if nothing else.
