Bike Workstand

So I was cleaning my bike last night and it was a pain in the arse.

I need to get a workstand, but just had a look at a couple of websites there and the prices are pretty hefty.

I remember Lidl did some last year that seemed pretty good.

Anyone know where I might get a half decent one at a reasonable price

I used the Lidl ones (or maybe they were Aldi?) on the Rothar bike maintenance course. Not great. The clamps wouldn't tighten on one, and they generally felt wobbly and insecure.

I have a Park PCS-10 myself, rock solid and should last indefinitely. I seem to recall it was about €150 from CRC about 3 years ago, now €170:eek:. A bit cheaper on Amazon.

If you want to spend as little as possible ,and have a shed or garage, you could try the pulley storage yokes.

There's one on adverts for E60 (no, it's not mine :P)

€60, taking the piss, they were €32 new.

The Lidl/Aldi workstands are fine. The ones in rothar would see a lot of use from people who don't care about the equipment, so will fall apart quickly. I've had no issues with mine.

    +1 for the lidl/aldi stand,
Not fantastic quality but holds the bike off the ground to work on, folds down neatly.
Couldn't justify paying €150+ on a stand that may only get a few hours use each year,

True about the amount of use and abuse they'd get in Rothar, the thought occurred to me after I'd posted. Can't argue with €32, proper bargain.

The current lidl magazine has an insert about a warehouse clearance sale somewhere in Liffeyvalley. There are workstands (made by Crivit) listed in it for €24.99. Can't find any links to it online.

Would like to know more about this. Is it in Lidl orsomewhere else and when is it on?

According to the magazine insert the stand is on sale on Saturday the 5th in the liffeyvalley retail park beside where the McDonalds is. They're probably renting one of the unused units there.

    Is that possibly Saturday 3rd?
    Or Monday 5th?

Tie the bike up to the roof by the saddle for the cheapskates method of making a workstand. The bike will balance itself like that and it is perfect for cleaning, adjusting gears, etc.

I have a rope hanging down from the beam in a corner of my garage with a "hangmans noose" on the end of it so I can just slip it over the front of the saddle.

I managed to pick up an unused Lidl workstand recently. However it has no instructions.. most of it is obvious but there is an extendable bar with a couple of rubber ties. Can anyone advise what this is for and where it is fitted. Any pictures would be a bonus...

It's for keeping the handlebars straight, it attaches to the stand and your handlebar. I never attached it, it stays in the box. I wouldn't bother attaching it.

Am so annoyed. Got up early yesterday, queued up and got the Crivit Bike Workstand. After a 100km roundtrip got home to realise that a couple of critical poles and clamps are missing. Am steaming now!
What do I do next?

I went out of my way on Friday to get one, qued up and all, only to find outd they wern't on till Saturday and I was heading away for the weekend.

Was lucky enough to be back in Dublin and passing Liffey Valley on Sunday about half 5 do slipped in on the off chance there might be a couple left.

Nice one, 5 left so helped myself to what looked like the tidiest box. They had obviously all been previously opened and battered. So I figure they got all the bits and pieces and a couple of rolls of selotape to patch each set back together.

Now I'm reading this and thinking I have to get home now and open the bloody thing to find out if it is all there!

I would say I bought the last one, so that left 4 in the shop so if you contact them, maybe head office or something, they might be able to ship one to your local Lidl for you to swap?
