Why did you ask a question, and then answer it?

    Where did you hear that?

One is an operating system, the other is software

Microsoft is a company, I'm assuming you mean Windows, but regardless your comment makes no sense

Microsoft opened a huge can of worms when they bundled Internet Explorer with Windows, I expect they would run into the same issues.

Besides, not everyone needs Office, so they can make $$$ by selling it to people rather than bundle it. Some PC manufacturers do bundle it and it comes pre-installed.

It is by no means illegal to have Microsoft preinstalled on a new PC (even the operating system is Microsoft).

Many OEMs throw in a time-limited Office trial version, annoying advertisement but not illegal.

Then there are OEM versions of Office, those you can order pre-installed with a new PC from the manufacturer/dealer, at a premium of course.

The retail (and more expensive) version you'll have to buy separately and install yourself. The advantage , unlike the OEM version, you can use the retail version with your next computer without buying a new license (provided, you uninstall it from the old one).

    Pointless Thread. Closed!
Of course you can buy Office with a pc, once it ships with a valid license.
