Your Heart is a Drum Machine are an Irish band combining old and new technologies to bring something different to live performance. As a part of their setup, they incorporate percussive, reed, wind and string instruments alongside looping, sampling and synthesizers.

Operating by a DIY ethos, the band has spent the last few months writing and recording songs. They are currently in rehearsals and gearing up for a number of live performances in 2012.

Songs in progress can be heard here:

Currently reworking this tune for a live setting. This would have been one of the first songs worked on when I began to use Propellerhead Reason and it has it's flaws, having never worked to a click before and then deciding to put one in halfway through due to the different time changes in the song caused a few glitches. The start is out of time for one thing... but I learnt!

The distorted guitar at the end is recorded by an SM58 with a 10 watt amp played in a wardrobe and the video (I think) turned out quite well. Looking forward to playing it live.

Currently working the song above, "For The Departed", into the live set.
Rehearsals are picking up pace and the sounds are coming together.
Looking forward to arranging our first live gig but might get a few open mic nights in first to road test the tunes.

Jesus, it's been a while since I've updated this thread.
It's nice to see the pedals and equipment in the posts above all nice and new and shiny, because they're f*cking battered now!

Quite a lot has happened since the last post.

Lucy the singer left the band due to other commitments around June of 2013 and a collection of the recordings we made can be heard here:
    https://soundcloud.com/dermotbohan/sets/your-heart-is-a-drum-machine

I started working with a new singer, Josie Van Embden, for 6 months and ditched the electronics for the time being, taking a more acoustic approach and worked on recording and mixing songs.
The recordings from that time can be heard here:
    https://soundcloud.com/dermotbohan/sets/your-heart-is-a-drum-machine-1

Now, it's a mix of everything and I'm going to be doing solo gigs as well as full band gigs. The newest songs I've been working on can be heard here:

Nice to see the soundcloud selection appearing on boards.ie at last.

Here's another video made from the start of the year, showcasing the equipment I'm using at the moment.

It's been a fair while since I've uploaded something. The reason being that I had to learn to use a lot of new equipment (Microkorg XL, Drum machine, Vocoder, Yamaha Rm1x and Max4Live) and get them to talk to each other. Here's the results of that effort: demo of a tune that's pretty much finished.

    Thanks.

Been a while since posting anything. I'm currently waiting on equipment to arrive from China to complete the setup, but it's taking its sweet ass time.

Anyway, here's a demo of a tune being worked on. Hopefully there'll be lyrics, vocals and electric guitar added over the weekend.

I brought in some video recording devices to a jam in Badlands with drummer Al and Myself. I had a go ad editing the footage top something more than the usual stationary video:
