Sky no discount allowed?

I was half-thinking of getting rid of my Sky package. So a couple of weeks ago I cancelled. At the time no offer was made to stay even though I paid top dollar and I didn't look for any as I was convinced I was going to get rid.

Anyways today I rang looking for a discount to stay. Agent said discount wasn't possible as I had just finished a discount (last summer my faulty (in warranty) 1TB box was replaced and I lost all my recordings - I got a 20% discount for 6 months, which only finished last month).

So I sent off an email. Got a phone call tonite and it was explained to me because I had just finished a discount that the computer/system wouldn't allow a new discount - regardless of how long I have been a customer or how much I was paying each month. Agent said: "Sky can only give out a certain number of discounts."

Anyone come across this one before - just finished a discount and computer/system won't allow a new one? Am I getting the full story here?

I had the same before, had a 6 month discount and was told they couldn't give me another one straight away.

If you're prepared to cancel & do without Sky for about 8 weeks they'll ring you within the first month then write to you offering the sun.moon & stars to come back. You could end up getting half price Sky for a year.
OP,you'll get a call soon from them with an offer.

I guess that means I will be cancelling in August once my half price for 12 months is over. Oh well

As is usual for Sky reps at times they're talking through their asses.

I think it was May 2010 that they give me a half price deal for 12 months. It should have expired in May 2011 but due to a couple of cockups on their part I ended up getting the half price sub continued right through to yesterday. As a result of one particular mistake they made they agreed to continue with the half price offer from August 2011 to February 2012 so that dispels stories of a customer not being able to get another offer having just finished on one. On top of the half price sub I also had multiroom free from February 2011 up to yesterday also.

As I had Sports, multiroom, HD and basic pack it was going to cost too much when the half price offer expired so back in January I rang up and cancelled. The guy made me an offer of 25% off to stay (which seems to be the norm these days) but I declined the offer.

About 2 weeks ago a Sky rep phones me and offers me the same package again for half price (basic pack, sports and HD) for 6 months but with no contract other than the standard 31 days notice of cancellation. He couldn't give me an offer on the multiroom however even though I pushed him all the way.

So there you have it. I was on a half price offer up to the end of February, I cancelled at the end of January and in mid February they give me the same offer again. Ask them to explain that!

I was on to them yesterday. we have the 33 euro pack for up on 8 years. I really want to upgrade to hd (formula 1)but told them that I can no longer afford sky at all. They offered current pack with 25% discount straight off for 6 months but wanted a 12 month contract attached to this. I thought this was a pretty poor deal. Didnt do anything yet. I have no issue signing up for 12 months but tbh would want the discount to be for the entire period.
I wonder would they go for €33 for current pack with hd added for complete year?

It was a pleasant enough experience to put my case across as I believe I was talking to cork not somewhere in India.

Sky will sell their grannies to keep or gain customers. They are shedding customers by the new time as people discover FTA alternatives.

It is coming to the end of the EPL season. They will do anything to get sign ups or maintain customers.

I light my fire with them I get so much junk mail from them.

To the OP, so you havent cancelled then ? Ask to be put through to cancellations and cancel. They'll be back.

yeah whoever told you that a second discount is not allowed is trying to fool you into staying. we are on our 3rd half price discount in a row. they offered 25% but we said no cancel and they they said sure have half price for another 6 months.

Its worth going through with the actual cancellation process to get it as they know that saorview/freesat etc is taking a major chunk of their business and its better to keep a customer at half price rather than not have them.

I tried the old discount phone call too. Didn't actually ask for one mind you, but went through the cancellation process hoping to get an offer.

Currently paying €57 per month for the usual Entertainment package and Sky Sports 1-4.

Called the guys in Cork who in fairness were nice, and the guy offered me Sky Sports 1 for €19 per month, with the option to call and change it over before a match to Sky Sports 2 if needed. "Pah!" I said.."that offer will not do for me"....(hoping for a better offer)..."Ok" he says, "it will be flicked off on the 24th of March"... Damn you! Thats what I get anyway!

What really pished me off was that they charged me €40 to change my debit date from the 06th to the 25th before the cancellation so I was hoping they might show some mercy :(

Sit tight and there's a fair good chance that they will call you with another offer before 24th March.

    Time will tell :)

Even if they dont call you can always ring up a day or two before the sub expires and complain as to why others are given better offers. They might make you a better offer or hopefully, as I said earlier, they will contact you before that.

My son is in the same position as yourself. He cancelled and the sub is to expire on 16th March and he's hoping to get a call with a better offer the same as I did.

I'm on their lowest plan 27 a month, called today said I never watch it and want to cancel got 25 % discount offer, said: I will still cancel it when the 6 months is up, because I dont watch it anymore, offer when up to 50% off. I told the guy I am still going to cancel when it's up and he said no problem, acted like everyone get's this discount when they call... Looks like it depends on who answers the phone when you call. This is my second 6 months discount.

    Well I tried...

I filled out a survey for the call I received last night from an agent on the Executive Support Team. Using ideas from this thread I explained how I thought I was been treated unfairly for not getting a discount.

Then I sent another email to Executive Support Team. I just got a phone call from the same agent. She was nice to deal with on the phone. She explained:

    (1) I can't get another discount straight away as I just finished one - the computer system won't allow such a transaction.
    (2) As I have the full package Sky can't offer a 'taster' i.e. "we see you don't have HD - would you like to try it half-price for 6 months"
    (3) Sky monitor forums (I think she meant the UK ones) and they are aware of people "milking the system". Sky have taken people to court who are caught deceiving them!
    (4) With the times we are in, lots of people are looking for a discount but Sky are cutting back on these.
    (5) People looking for discounts often send in posts from forums and Sky don't pay heed to them. (I didn't send one in BTW)

I tried and tried, she wasn't moving. I think the mistake I made was sending the email and getting in touch with the Executive Support Team. I might try a regular Sky agent and see how I get on.

Making me nervous now as I have a 25% discount that runs up next month and I was going to ring them again and look for same discount for the year

OK, to update, I rang today and told them this deal did not suit. I said to proceed to cancel it. I had made the argument the last day that we could not afford the package. Today, I took the angle that if we got an improved package, I would consider keeping around the same price and I suggested paying €35 for current plus hd pack. I was passed onto someone else and they then offered half price on the €33 plus €15 on the hd pack for 6 months with no new contract. I guess I could have argued for half price on the hd pack too but that might be taking the piss so I agreed to that. €31.50 now including the f1 instead of €33 before without the F1.

Thats a bit rich, if they offer you a deal it's their problem. It's called being a good negotiator:D

sorry if this has been asked but.. I am close to the end of my year contract, part of what the sales rep told was that sky was freezing its prices until 2013.

I have the whole house multi room deal, I know that after a year that changes and you pay per room.

I was planning on saying that I want them to keep it the way it is until at least 2013, will that work or will i have to threaten to leave to get to keep the whole house deal?

They will keep your package at the same price until 2013. If you dont contact them then they just continue to take the money by direct debit from your bank account even though your contract is up. And better still, if you opted to leave after the contract is up you will still have to give 31 days notice.

As others have said ring up and say you want to cancel (31 days before your contract is up) and see what they offer. If you dont find it acceptable then tell them to proceed with the cancellation.

If they dont call you with an offer before the sub is up then either sit tight for a few weeks or if you want to stay then just phone again and tell them you had a change of mind.

I cancelled Sky in January and I haven't heard from them by phone but did get a few letters, last weeks one is 1/2 price for 12 months but it is unclear whether I would be tied into a 12 month contract or not.

I don't think I will bother but going to swop out the sky+ box for a regular box as it's a pain using other channels to watch most of the uk channels

Half price is as good as you will get but you will be tied to a contract I think. A lot of people would be happy with that though

Have you read this thread about getting the UK channels on the EPG?

When I took the half price for one year I was told there would be no contract unless I took the HD package

this bit is strange. i just changed my billing date, and they didn't charge me a jot (although when i clicked to change it did say for some reason that my 37pm would now be about 38.5pm, i have no idea why i should be paying more per month just cos i changed the billing date)

i canceled sky after my half price deal ended just waiting for a letter in the post to say they will offer me a new half price deal to come back to them, it normal takes 3 months.. so only free view channels till then

i do this every year pay 32 euros a month other wise ill have to pay 100 euros a month.

but you cant beat UPC all 3 for 67 a month plus ESPN is inc. in that

Usually it's a phonecall about a month after cancelling, then a letter after 90 days.Sky World with HD for €45 a month isn't bad at all.

    I have the basic package.
Wanted the sport (for the European Rugby)
Rang them. Got a deal last year half price Sport for 6 Months.
    Grand.
    Cancelled after 5 months.

This year missing the Rugby, rang Cork, asked about offers. Zilch. Nothing.
Put phone down and rang Scotland, 3 month deal half price.:D:D
