    Hi there,

About a year and a half ago I started a subscription with UPC, student deal, with a normal non recording box, I have since moved house and brought my UPC deal with me, now I want to upgrade to a recording box deal ( they keep telling me its only 3 euro extra so why not ) but every time I have called them in the last two months they tell me that there was flooding in the part of asia where there boxes are made, and they will put me down on a list, its been two months, and if this story is true I don't mind waiting, but one of my mates got a new box in the last two weeks, I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about this !!

    Cheers :D

There is a huge shortage of Hard drives due to the massive floods in Taiwan...dont know if its relevent to your problem but I have a few people mention they are having problems obtaining a HD box also

......they might be having you on, however they are correct in saying that the floods in Thailand have had very severe consequences for the global supplies of hard drives about 25% of the worlds production comes from this area of Thailand. (Or came.....)

    more info here

All boxes returned have to be checked and cleared fully before being sent back out on the field due to children viewing adult material recorded etc....and as far as I know it was only been done in Holland originally but that surely has changed by now.

They appear to use a company called Thelinor to do their collections, at least thelinor.ie was the domain name of the email address I was given to arrange my pick-up.
