Was thinking last night, with all the problems costa cruises are having there must be some good deals on cruises.

A quick look on ebookers, and I found the following which seems like a great deal, 7 nights sailing from Amsterdam to the fjords of Norway and back.

    http://cruises.ebookers.ie/travel/cruise/sailplan.rvlx?CruiseItineraryID=205542&printable=1

You can get a free upgrade to a sea view room. So for 375 each you get 7 nights in a sea view stateroom.

You can get a flight to Amsterdam for less than 100.

I don't know much about cruising, but from what I understand your food is included, but drinks are not.

I'd be interesting in hearing opinions on cruising in general and this...

Great chance to see visual Auroras too especially if up around Tromso, solar cycle is kicking off

I'm goin on my 5th cruise in two years in May - can't wait :)

This is a really good offer - though I wouldn't say it's due to Costa - there's always good cruise offers to be had if you look around. My next cruise is 11 nights from Dubai to Singapore and got it for 500 euro!

Royal Caribbean are great. The Brilliance of the Seas is an oldish ship but still pretty good - has sports centres, rockclimbing wall, ice-skating rink, pools.

The price of the cruises include all your food (and there's loads to choose from), all onboard entertainment - shows, cookery demonstrations, discos, trivia quizzes etc. The only extras you need to pay for are drinks (though water, tea, coffee and diluted drinks are free), any excursions off the ship, the casino and any photos you want to buy.

Couldn't recommend cruising highly enough. Great way to see the world without the hassle of moving hotels, packing up etc.

Not sure you'd see the Auroras that far south of Norway - I'm just back from Oslo and didn't see a thing plus colleague of mine who's a star gazer for years hasn't seen anything in the last the Auroras started.

BTW, Norway is the dearest country I've even been too! €12 a pint plus I got a medium Burger King Meal and it cost me €17!

Tromso is lovely but I don't think it's far enough north for aurora ...

Norway is beautiful but it is unbelievably expensive ... Last year we were there for a couple of weeks ... A pint of beer (domestic) cost 12€, oranges were 2€ each ... 2litres of milk cost almost €6 ... Eating out was a joke, Norwegians just don't ... Pizza for 2 adults + 2 kids with a round of drinks cost over €100 ...

If u are cruising and ur food is included u should be ok ... Otherwise u may need to remortgage! Enjoy

Cruising is definitely a great way to travel.
price of the cruises include all your food (and there's loads to choose from), all onboard entertainment - shows, cookery demonstrations, discos, trivia quizzes etc. The only extras you need to pay for are drinks (though water, tea, coffee and diluted drinks are free), any excursions off the ship, the casino and any photos you want to buy.

And a compulsory daily surcharge (to cover tipping etc) which ranges from €5-10 per person per day depending on the cruise line. A long argument with the front desk might get it reduced, apparently...

I know lads that go on them just for that reason, said that 2-3 some nights and they usually run out of time not chances to score ;) and they're all under 35 :D

And if I am not mistaken the price also includes $100 on board spending... Don't see how you can get a better cruise offer...

I would find it hard to believe that a company like this could survive, even with a name change

Of course it is, can't get much norther than that.

Late May wouldn't be ideal as there's little/no nighttime.

Tromso is definitely far enough north to see the aurora, however this cruise goes nowhere near Tromso. It's mainly cruising around the fjords a little bit north of Bergen. It's still a beautiful part of the world to go and see!
