I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not, but I've got a an assignment about costs and production etc and I've chosen the ps3 system to do it on.

Just wondering would someone be able to give me advice on what resources would be needed to actually make the PS3 itself? I've emailed sony, but yet to receive a reply. I can't find anything on the web and I can understand that.

Just curious would anyone know what materials and stuff that would be required to actually make the product itself?

Look up circuit board components, metals and plastics etc. Blu ray drive, hard drive, lots and lots of polypropylene plastics. Then add the engineers, programmers, designers and money. That should get you started.

Cost of unit will be minimal compared to cost of expertise. Plant costs, shipping costs, promotion/advertising costs. Celebrity endorsements costs, web portal costs, network setup and maintainence costs. Development of peripherals costs. Ongoing maintainence of network costs including plant and expertise costs. Also official magazine costs could be under advertising.

I am sure there is much more but that should give you some round figure in the billions equal to Ireland Inc's debt.

If Sony is a listed company you could look for the annual statement to shareholders which may give some breakdown of units sold and profit. Based on an estimate of cost of each unit globally you should be able to get to a figure for one side of the balance sheet.
