Looking at buying this scope of this lad. Its the 4-16x50 with the TDS 4I reticle illuminated. What's your opinions on it? As in low light. I know Swarovski are a excellent make just don't know much on this model. I wouldn't know much about them and was hoping ye had some experience with these scopes. I like the reticle in it and it being illuminated which is another nice touch as i like them for lamping. It will be going on a .308. Costing about €1200 second hand. Is that good value as i can't find prices for it. Here's the scope anyways on the website.

Any info will be appreciated :D

Great scope, but a little much for second-hand. I'd be looking more like €900-1000 for that. Lovely item though.

Is it? I wouldn't know the full price new. Is a gun dealer first time dealing with him.

See is he open to negotiation. If you can get it for more like the above figure, I'd say go for it. Very good optic.

I read alot that Swarovski scopes are better as in glass. Never hear many people having a nightforce on a hunting rifle tbh.

I have a Swarovski 6x24x50 TDS reticle, regrettfully not with an illuminated reticle. An excellent piece of glass. Compare it with a friends Zeiss Conquest at dusk a few evenings ago. He was disappointed.

No surprise sika98k, a top end Swarowski versus a middle of the range Zeiss....if you compare a good VW Passat with an S class Benz the outcome will be quite similar :)

Conquest is bottom end of Zeiss range ;)

I think that around 1000€ is a good price for this Swarovski and even 1200€ is not too much if the scopes is in good condition.

Yeah the illumination always adds a good bit to the price. Could you clearly see the crosshairs sitka98k or would you need the illumination?

I'm like a broken record on this point, but personally I would not spend that money on a hunting scope to get stuck with an Adjustable Objective.

Difficult to adjust while looking through the scope because it's very far forward. You'll get lads telling you to leave it at 100 yards etc but why spend money on top end glass and then under utilise it. That never made sense to me.

Adjustable Objectives do have their advantages. There are less lenses than a side parallax scope (fixed parallax scopes have the same I think), making for better light transmission. They can be better for very fine adjustments for longer range stuff. I just don't like them in the field myself.

May not bother you though and there is no doubting Swarovski quality.

What scope would you use for hunting Vegeta if you don't mind me asking? I would prefer the side parallax also. Thanks for the comments to lads :)

Compared to the Conquest mine was streets ahead. Sure the illuminated reticle would then buy you another couple of minutes at dusk or dawn.

Yeah, i heard that some scopes the reticles are very fine and it's hard to make the centre out at dusk so the illuminated reticle would benefit. Thanks for the info :D

If it is only for hunting then any brand reputed for great glass (Zeiss, Swarovski, Kaps, S&B etc etc), 2.5-10 or 3-12 magnification, 50mm objective and fixed parallax.

Personally I'm not a great fan of fully illuminated jobs, if there's a need for illumination I'd prefer just a lit up center dot. Full illumination in my opinion takes away from the sight picture and makes you concentrate on the reticle.

I've had 2 Swarovskis in the past. I still have a 6-18. Outstanding hunting scope IMO. Low light performance is excellent.

    €1200 is a bit steep. It's worth €1000 max

I've both swaro and nightfore both on 308 rifles, swaro is 6-24-50 and that's on my deer rifle for hunting I think you should buy the best you can afford, the swaro is top dog but it's dusk and dawn that it out shines the rest so food for taught as your also on a 308 but said its daytime shooting.
Honestly I get swaro scopes in from time to time and for 1200 euro it would have to be mint boxed and paperwork receipts, pay no more than 1100 and its a good deal if you get it for less.
    My 2cents
Nightforce is for targets the glass is not even close to swaro.
