Irish Assignment...

I've an assignment to do for Irish, an article to write on the word variations between the different dialects and how some of them are thrown into everyday English... pretty much the effect Irish is having on English. But seeing as I have been taught the official standard of Irish and I'm not from a Gaeltacht I can't really say I know a huge pile about this and none of my friends use Irish really. Can anyone give me a hand with this?

Also there used to be a book about the history of the Irish language on the Leaving Cert Honours Irish course (I don't know if it still is) It was called Tobar na Gaeilge (as far as I remember) and it had stuff in it about dialects and words changing.

It's hard to get a good read on what you're after from your OP, and in fact your interpretation of your assignment sounds like it might be a little off. If you care to be more specific about what is required, perhaps useful help will result. In the meantime, I'd suggest watching and listening very carefully to TG4 material, for instance, to get a good read on colloquial language, if that's what you need (and it sounds like that IS what you need).
