I think this deserves its own thread.

Eddie Gentles, founder of the website blues-twos.com passed away yesterday Tuesday the 28th of February 2012.

Most of the regular posters here will know his website and have seen the pictures.

On behalf of my co mods and myself I would like to offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and internet followers at this very sad time.

    RIP Eddie Gentles,

I don't think there was a fire engine in the country that you hadn't photographed, or a station you hadn't called to over the years.

I am so sorry to hear this news.
I never met the man in person but had contact with him through e-mail.
You could tell from the way he wrote that he was a gentleman.

Any chance there are pictures of him that we can throw to in to the first post of this thread?

Aww that's said to here. Only had one interaction with him over my repost of a picture here which thankfully was amicable.

Seemed like a perfect gent and his phots and website have helped me pass many an hour.

    My sympathies, RIP.

Never heard of the man, so I won't say "RIP" as I feel it'd only cheapen it for those who genuinely did know him and will miss him.

I will say my hat is off to the man, though. The website and the hobby in general is great, and it's fantastic to see someone so dedicated to such a, lets face it, obscure interest.

I personally enjoy photographing Emergency Services vehicles, and interacting with those un/fortunate enough to have the duty of driving them (I'll leave it to yourselves to decide if you'd love or hate the job).

I think, truth be told, I may have heard of Eddie Gentles before, through the Drogheda Fire and Rescue Service Station, when I took my first trip up there to photograph their appliances. They mentioned a man that goes around the country photographing the different tenders. Could be a completely different person, but I can't imagine there are too many out there willing to take their interest so seriously.

All I'd say is I hope the man had great fun pursuing his hobby. My own personal interest in the emergency services and their respective equipment and lives has inadvertently started my career as a professional photographer.

In the short time I've been taking such photographs, and been interested in doing such, I've been unfortunate enough to be at the side of the road of fatal RTAs, lucky enough to be asked by a gentleman of a Garda to visit the station specifically to photograph their new jeep a short while ago, be given tours of the local Fire and Garda stations, along with many other situations I won't go into, and have had the pleasure of not only seeing the emergency service personnel at work, but also proud to say I've happily made great banter with the vast majority of them, too.

I've been shooting the Emergency services for about two years. With this in mind; I can only imagine the many great stories and memories that Eddie Gentles must have, and the many uncomfortable and awakening unfortunate situations he's also unintentionally attended.

Anyway, I'll wrap this up now, but I hope that there are other people in charge of the site and that it continues to flourish and keep going strong. I applaud the man for his efforts and contributions.

I have been looking at this thread since it was posted and only now I realise that I knew the man very well. We worked together for a while in Clonmel Eddie was a truck driver with Flancare in Clonmel and was 66 years of age he was mad into the C.B radio and scanners when I worked with him.

Rest in peace Eddie and ten four good buddy..

Met him a few times as a student, I loaded his truck a few times. I had seen his website before that, so we had a bit to chat about.

    Gentle, decent, amiable chap. RIP.
