The Conference isn't untill 2PM, so I would assume the link will be available sometime during/after it

I wonder if there is a way to automatically default to the normal desktop in Windows 8 rather than the Metro UI? I'm not sure Metro is going to be much use if you're still using a keyboard and mouse. Actually I think Metro is only really aimed at touch-capable devices.

There is apparantly, but you lose the nice new Task manager and basically ends up looking like Windows 7

This version (at least in a VirtualBox VM) doesn't seem to like SATA controllers. IDE all the way, otherwise you'll get a IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD.

Flip. Thanks for the heads up. Might wait to see if they'll release a hotfix for it before I go dualbooting it.

Am I wrong or in the past couldn't you join the beta program for new Win OSs and then eventually 'earn' your own fully licensed vers of final product?

    - If this is an option or something similar could someone please advise?

    Thanks!

Indeed. Its a pain in the hole with the mouse, and watching videos released by microsoft shows how well it works on a touchscreen device.

Just started with it and looking at the desktop and notice no menu system. So i just clutter up my desktop/taskbar now?

I'm not keen on Metro for desktop/laptop systems but I can see how useful it would be on a touch-based device. Would be interesting to see it in use on a Cintiq-type system.

Beyond Metro as a UI there's not really much of interest that I've seen so far in the demo, tbh.

How long would this likely be open for?

really liking the new look and feel. Time to get digging!

EDIT: there is already updates waiting to be downloaded (for 64bit vershion)

IT keeps telling me that the product key isn't valid, please check and try again. Anyone got this problem or a valid product key ?

Have you used the product key listed on the ISO download page?

<snip> I just tried that one as well, but no joy. Could it be a timing thing, are these codes expired now, maybe ?

    +1

Expiry of the license is mid January '13, so we're getting a free OS for nearly a year. I actually upgraded my main PC after having trouble trying a new install (tried several hard disks). Upgrade worked very well, only one program couldn't be installed (Avast anti virus), but I suppose MS have the anti virus covered within the new Defender :D

    All hardware drivers worked too.

PC has been on over 24 hours, no stability issues, no crashes. Pretty impressive stuff for what is still only a beta.

Unfortunately metro can't be disabled this time :(
