The best option would be reformat all hard disk drive and install fresh copy of Windows.

Caution there, you may have to edit the bootloader first.

Yep, format the entire drive and re-install your OS of choice.

Simply deleting the partition and formatting it will leave you with a second empty partition, and no way to combine them. Well, you can combine them using software, but they will remain two separate logical partitions.

As stated already, you will probably have to edit the bootloader (if Vista or 7) so it only prompts for 1 OS upon boot.

But the simplest way is definitely just format the entire disk, and re-install the OS from scratch. Obviously backup any data you may wish to keep.

Ya, I concur the only wise thing to do is to format the hard drive making sure you have backed up what you want and your settings etc. It is possible to get rid of one by formatting the partition its on, however if your boot-loader is on this partition you will be in trouble. You can rebuild the bootloader using a linux repair disk, you can download.

You then can merge your partitions into one if you need to by using disk partition software, by expanding the size of your remaining windows partition so you end up with one full partition. This does not always go to plan and is messy.

So, no matter what course of action you head for, you will need the installation disc of the windows you are keeping, so you can re install it if it goes wrong, can be used to correct start up problems, like the blinking cursor syndrome. You need a little Linux emergency boot disk, this will have the utilities on it to write a boot loader, an MBR and other useful stuff. And perhaps partition software in case you need to doctor your hard drive into partitions.

Just so much easier to format and install.

Sure they expire after the trial of 30 day, its the genuine Windows you getting but you still need to activate it how ever you go about this.

You could invest in an OEM version of Windows, its a lot cheaper than the norm. But it does not come with drivers, you will have to download these yourself and configure your system and all that. try amazon UK for an OEM, they are usually quite good with price.

Sorry, meant for the OP to use.

I'm assuming his other operating system is 7, so he has a product key...if he doesn't know it he could use http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ to get it.

    (I've never used jellybean either)

If download manager needed..(I see it wrote at bottom of one of the window download link pages)
