I remember vaguely getting a letter 2 years ago regarding some penalty points and that they had expired.I'm pretty sure my remaining points expired this month but I received no notification.

Do they still send them out?

They do, but you can ring the RSA in Mayo with your licence number and ask them how many points are on your licence and when they expire.

They do but remember that the points only apply about a month after you pay the fine which is ridiculous imo.

They were definitely applied in Feb 09, the "offence" was in Oct 08

I was speeding dec 04, got points applied may 05, they expired may 08, and I got a letter saying they expired in November 2009, so I wouldn't be waiting on the letter. I just stopped mentioning them to my insurance from the first renewel after may 08.

Followed this up today by ringing them on 096 78288, the lady on the phone confirmed I'm now points free :D

Well done. Its great for when you are ringing for quotes that you dont have to mumble "2points for speeding..." with your head hung :D

I've had 3 sets of two, good while back now I'd hasten to add, they wrote about the first set but not the others. Arsehole of an organisation, I wouldn't expect any better of them.

I got a letter earlier this week notifying me of my points expiring which were applied on 23/02/09 - so pretty good, timely notification.
If you changed address since the points were applied then you would need to inform the RSA - most people change the address of their car but never bother about the licence. I'm sure quite a number of people never receive the notification of points expiring simply because the letter goes to an old address!
