Was watching the frontline last night and some bloke said hes doing a internship but can't was cut off the dole because hes not available for full time work, what's that all about? ..Maybe i understood him wrong but i was thinking about going over to a place that's offering one of these internships and putting my name up for it, what i heard last night has put me off though. Can anyone clear this up?

You can do internships through JobBridge and get an extra 50 on top of your welfare payment.

Doing non-JobBridge internships would mean that you wouldn't satisfy the requirement of 'genuinely seeking work' while on JSA/JSB.

Rather than start a new thread but do companies advertising internships have to go through the proper channels re: advertising, person specification and interviews? I have a very demoralised friend with an MA told today that he wasnt suitable despite meeting all criteria in advertised. Surely they need to interview all suitable candidates? Can he complain to the minister? It appears that someone got the internship that they already knew and were not qualified:(

No like any other job they hire who they like, and that's the way it should be. Complain to the Minister for SW you mean? Are you serious? Companies do that all the time! Qualifications are only a small part of the process. Maybe the guy was overqualified, or maybe the other person was just better looking. It doesn't matter, there's nothing practical/useful you can do! Forget it and move on. What do you think the Minister could/would do?
