i did it on a car i was looking at but was a bit dissapointed with the report itself tbh. the only thing that came back red was that the car wasnt taxed for 11 months in 2010 which is ok for me as i dont really care if previous owners taxed it or not. everything else came back ok. although i thought the report would give the mileage of the when the car was ncted at the various stages. i only had th reg and didnt have the chasis number or them numbers but must get them and fill it in. are they normallky good to varify the mileage

This is Ireland. We are lucky to have manufacturers recrod the milage on their database at service intervals now, let alone anyone else do it. A stamped book here means one of two things:
    a) The owner knew a guy in the garage who had a stamp.
    b) The owner actually got it serviced when the book says he did.

However in the UK you'll typically get all the individual invoicmes also with the stamped book, as well as invoices for things like new tyres. There's a much better attitude towards documented history over there than here, we're trailing behind. I'd say it will need Government intervention before the NCT centres start recording mileage to give to parties like cartell.ie, and our bunch of plebs aren't likely to do anything like that soon.

Bit odd that it wasn't taxed though. is it an old car? if it's under 7 years old (5 years in 2010) then alarm bells should be ringing and I'd inspect the bodywork very carefully.

If you want to shoot me the reg I'll check our database. Whilst we don't have access to the NCT data (yet) our own mileage database might be able to help.

Is it in the pipeline that you will have access to the mileage records from the NCT?

I've input my car mileage voluntarily in the motor check data base to hopefully catch a clocker out in the future. I reckon my car is the perfect candidate for future clocking

ok car is 2005. here is a bit of the report copied and pasted.
    TAX EXPIRY DATE
    30-Apr-2012
    31-Jan-2012
    31-Oct-2010
    30-Jun-2010
    30-Jun-2009
    30-Jun-2008
    29-Feb-2008
    31-Mar-2006

so car was not taxed from march 2006 for around 11 months into 2007. could it be possible car was in a dealers for this time and was not sold? anyway i could check up on this as the current owener probably wont know either since he was the 3rd owner.

i find it all a bit confusing as i think in places it has dealers listed as owners. is there anyone of ye could copy and paste the whole report to ye in a private message and ye could go through it? and inform me of your suspicions?

How did this work out for you? Just used cartell for the first time and was also disappointed that it didn't show the mileage when previous NCT's were performed. Same issue with the gap in tax but it was just before a sale so perhaps it was in garage for six months.

Something else strange was that car was first registered in Sept 04 but not taxed until Apr 05. Also shows it was sold in Apr 05. Thinking demo model??

Report threw up more questions than answers.

Dealers sometimes register cars to meet the distributor quota. The car can sit for a long time after its registered. While mileage is good to know, the cars condition is more important. You can get a well looked after car with unverified mileage vs a verified mileage car that never got serviced. A mechanic will usually be able to spot an abused car, unless the clocker goes to a lot of trouble it's hard to disguise a high mileage car.

A mileage report and service history are a nice bonus, but always get a car checked out before purchase.

Thanks for that. Will get a mechanic to give it a once over before I make next move. Looks clean & has main dealer history for first four years so get the feeling the miles are genuine.
