Sorry for the possibly stupid questions but I just can't find the answers anywhere!!

I bought the leap card online while also paying for €5 credit, I've registered the card on my account and I can see it has a balance of €5, can someone please confirm whether or not I can actually use this card tomorrow morning when I get on the bus? Or do I have to ''collect'' this credit somewhere first?

Also, I don't live or work close enough to a shop that deals with the leap card and I'm not near a luas. I do however walk past the dart station on the way to work but I don't actually use the dart! How can I collect credit in this instance, as the leapcard site says to only use the dart to collect credit when travelling as I will be charged a fare!

The whole thing is fúcking farcical tbh.

When you bought the card, were you asked to nominate a specific pick up point (Luas stop, Dart station etc) to collect your credit? If not, you are probably ok to us it tomorrow.

If you buy the card and credit at the same time the credit will be activated on the card, so you can work away tomorrow without worry.

I'm guessing they send someone down to the nearest Luas stop to activate it before they post it out.

Nice one lads, no I didn't have to nominate anywhere to collect the credit. I wish I bought more now though, don't know where I'm going to collect and that fiver will only do me tomorrow.

You can go into one of the many shops selling leap Tomorrow and they can top you up immediately without having to collect at any validators, I am not 100% sure but think you can also top up at luas ticket machines? Maybe someone can confirm?

Yes, you can top up at LUAS machines. I did so yesterday.

Yes but I don't live near those shops and I won't be anywhere near the luas.

Note that Leap is best for occasional users. If you are using the bus on a daily basis, you should check your ticketing options.

If you want, the nest time you are near a Payzone agent (there are hundreds) or at a Luas stop, top up with enough money to cover you until you will be at one the next time. Top-ups at DART stations is moving towards the test phase.

Yeah I was told by someone this morning that I can buy a bus ticket for 20 quid that's good for 10 journeys, will have to check that out.

Oh, and this morning my card didn't work on the scanner on the right, so I just paid cash (had correct change just in case), but the driver took my card anyway and confirmed that there was credit on it and just said next time use the scanner on the left. From what I hear though that takes longer than just using cash! I think I'd rather just pay the extra 20c to save a few seconds.

But yeah, I'll definitely have a look at my ticket options. Thanks.

The Dublin Bus Travel 90 ticket - allows unlimited travel for 90 minutes (your final journey must start within 90 minutes of the first - when it finishes is irrelevant), and costs EUR 21.50.

There are also the DB rambler range for non-consecutive travel that may be of use.

    Full details are here.

Delayed so? Thought it was supposed to be rolled out by February?

Dublin Bus Travel 90. Gets you 10 journeys. Used to cost €19, now costs €21.50, so you're looking at a flat €2.15 per journey.

    You can buy online here.
Oh, and this morning my card didn't work on the scanner on the right,
You'll be charged maximum fare of €2.40 every time you use the validator on the right. If that's the correct fare for you you're better off with the Travel 90, above.

Yep, 2.40 is the correct fare.

Are DB planning on discontinuing the Travel 90 card in the near future, now that the leap card is here?

Yep, 2.40 is the correct fare.
Then the T90 is the card for you. Use Leap on short journeys.

Don't think so. Talk of it being incorporated into Leap, but they have to get the basics right first.

Not in the short term. It, or a similar product, may eventually be merged with Leap.

You should get the travel90 ten journey ticket which allows you unlimited travel on any route for 90 minutes from the time you use it, so you can go from maynooth to town then hop on another bus maybe out to balbriggan or greystones and all for €2.15! These can also be used for the Xpresso buses at peak times.

No plans to discontinue the Travel 90 whatsoever - it is part of the ongoing DB ticket range.

Only a masochist would get the bus from Maynooth to town! Train does it in half the time.

Seeing as you can't collect credit from those bus scanners as there's no wireless connection from them. Does that mean that technically, I can use my card as many times as I want in a single day, even if I only have enough credit on it for one fare? As it doesn't update in real time does it?

The cash balance is stored on the card, not on the backend so every time you pay for a trip, your balance on the card goes down instantly.

Yes, the bus can deduct credit from your card but cannot add it on.
