    Hi guys!

A question about rent allowance; I had to move out of my parents house in november when i left college (deferred the course until this coming September). i then moved into a house where i am renting a room for 320 euro per month. i have also been waiting on my JSA since november and today i got accepted for supplementary welfare allowance while i am waiting on my JSA.

so the question is am i entitled to any kind of rent allowance or rent relief? i will find it hard to pay my rent with bills and living expenses included as i will be on 144 euro per week. my CWO gave me a number to ring today for it so i assume i am? but i thought you had to be out of your parents house for over 6 months. can someone explain please? i am currently overdue a months rent with another month coming up soon (i sold my personal items to pay the first 2 months rent!)

Also how to i apply? I will ring the number tomorrow that my CWO gave me

    Cheers!

I'd say you'd need to talk to your CWO and get assessed as having a housing need

Hi, I am in the same situation.Had to move out of my parents house for different reasons.I have a two year old child so i am currently renting a place that cost around 800 a month(all coming from savings) There are two ways of getting rent allowance.1. you have been renting from a registered landlord for six months previous to looking for RA, but you have to prove that since you started renting your situation changed and you are no longer able to pay rent , which might be hard in your case as you moved out of home.
The second is that you are on the housing list with Dublin City Council.
My advice is that you get a housing assessment form which you can get from Citizens Information(It's a long form!!) and go into Dublin City Council with it and all the documents needed. They will then send an officer out to assess your need for housing.(Dont hold your breath, it takes a while!!) Once that is done and you are on the housing list go to your Community Welfare officer. There will be two forms to fill out and then hope they make the right decision for you!! All the information you need is on the Citizens Information website or Social welfare website(I think it's under "Supplementary Welfare Allowance" Best of luck to you, I know the feeling, it's terrifying waiting !!x
