VW Golf Gti odomoter jump

I have an 05 Golf Gti which had 109k on the clock up until a week ago. A service was due at around 115 / 116k, and the display started reading Service in 6800km, Service in 6600km etc a few weeks ago, until last week it suddenly read Service now and the odomoter read 116k.

I brought it to a garage who was recommended to me but the guy turned out to be a waffler. He said it was due a service and that it would go back once it was done. Of course, once I paid him 400 quid for little more than an oil change he revealed that he didn't have a clue about it and clearly wasn't going to do anything about it.

Does anyone have any idea how this might have happened, or know a competent and trustworthy place I could get it looked at? The tyre pressure light is also flashing and he wasn't able to resolve this either.

If it was my car, I would firstly read off the mileage from the ECU via vagcom (Any proper garage or loads of people on here can do this) to see does it correspond with the dash. It sounds odd that the mileage would change like that. I dont know if any of the dashpod problems that were present on some vw/audi cars would cause such a problem but a look around the internet might offer something up.

That is a strange one. I have never heard of that happening a Mk5 before.

    Where are you located OP?

Is it true some BMW's have service reminders that change depending on driving style? Supposing if I drive very slow it may be 20k km for the next service but if I drive hard if reduces. I wonder if some golfs had this? Just a thought...

Yes it is true that service can arrive at less miles if driving hard or whatever but that has little to do with the case here where the OP says that the actual Odometer jumped from 109 to 116 k in a very short time - unless of course the OP is making a mistake and only the service interval count down changed. I know my car shows service due in x miles or x days. It is possible that the car was counting down the mileage to service and then it came to the day limit and immediately put up the service now message regardless of mileage covered. Again the OP would have to be mistaken about the actual odometer changing though.
