Trees in 1801

    Walter Wade visited these parts in 1801. He published a list of plants he came across:

    "A systemic account of the more rare plants principally found in the County of Galway but more particularly in that part of it called Cunnamara."

    I was lucky to be given a photocopy of it and so I scanned it. There are references to trees but my favorite is on page 122 (actual page 19)

    Oaks - Many very old dwarf oaks in the islands on Lough Corrib, particularly Bilburry Island.
