    Hi Guys,

I want to set up a facebook page for my sister's shop and I am having some problems when I am putting in the name.

For example if the name I want to put in was "John's clothes"' I am putting in "clothes" as the surname and "John" as the first name. When I submit this, I am getting a dialogue box saying that Facebook automated system doesn't recognise the name as a valid name. Any help getting around this please?

    Thanks.

Sounds like you are creating a Facebook Profile (for people) and not a Facebook Page (for business, organisations etc.) FB won't allow "clothes" to be used as a personal name.

Easiest way is to log in to FB as yourself as usual, go to any business page and down in the bottom right corner you'll see a link called "create a page".

    Follow the instructions.

If I can make one recommendation. Make sure you put in a proper address and not directions! This will mean that people can "check in" to your sisters shop.

You can then add your sister as an administrator so she can update her shop page.

    Thanks a mill. Job done.

Go ahead - pick one of these 6 categories for your new page. When you do, the image flips up and reveals a drop-down box where you can choose something very specific to that category.

Once you've found a category that's similar to whatever your Page will be about, you can then type out the "Name" for your page. If you don't know what to pick, believe me, you'll have a more clear picture once you administer the Page for awhile. Once again, you can always change the category in the future if you believe something better should have been used.

Be extremely careful in naming your page, as it is PERMANENT and will be seen within the actual URL of your Facebook Page (for all of you SEO professionals, you'll immediately see the importance of this).

AFAIK, if you set up a business page you will have to use timeline from the 31st of this month.

    Hi CJA James,
Are you trying to convert a personal profile to a business page (for your charity) now? If so, this should help you or at least answer some questions before you go ahead.
