    Hi,

My PHD is probably going to take 6 months to a year longer than the 3 years I have funding for. Does anyone know will I have to pay fees for my 4th year (as the college has waived them as part of my funding for 3 years)?

If your funding is running out at the end of the 3 year mark then you'll have to pay fees for the next year. To the best of my knowledge, it's not possible to pay for just 6 months of tuition anymore either, so you'll have to pay for a full year. You might want to look into alternative funding through a studentship from your department or from an external source. The graduate studies office ( http://www.tcd.ie/Graduate_Studies/ ) posts information about available funding on their website from time to time.

Talk to your supervisor. I got a 5 month (4 + deans grace) extension to submit mine. I'm in the school of physics if that is of any relevance. My supervisor suggested and applied for the extension. From the email he forwarded me:
    Dear [Supervisor]

The Dean has approved your request to extend Mr. [apexaviour]'s
submission deadline by 4 months (inclusive of Deans Grace)

The new submission deadline is the 31st January 2012.

No further fees will be incurred for this extension however Mr.
[apexaviour] is required to register with Student Records during the
    annual registration period. Details attached.

Student Fees and Student Records have been advised of the extension.

    Kind regards
    [so and so]

Secretary to the Dean of Graduate Studies Thesis submissions (Research)
