Chrome seems to have had an update recently as it asks you do you want gmail to handle links within chrome. I was happy to see this last night as I do want this on my home pc, but I got asked the same thing today on my work pc and accidentally clicked yes - however I use outlook in work and want it handling my mailto links in chrome

I cannot figure out how to change it back, can anyone help me??

You should find Outlook there. ;)
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
    "Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Microsoft
Outlook". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

You would have had to click the Yes option only the other day that allowed gmail to take over mailto links, this feature has only been released very recently.

You can stop this again from within Chrome:

Click the Spanner and Select Options.
    Select Under the Hood
    Click the Content Settings button
Scroll down and Click Manage Handlers
Change gmail to none or delete the entry.

    Job done.

Excellent thanks! Strangely the Mailto one was actually ticked, but I just ticked "Select all" and it fixed it for me then.

    Thanks for your help!
