just came across this on the wibbly wobbly wonder.

    FYI

National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC)
    ATTENTION DEER STALKERS!

Please note that the deer hunting season ends today, February 28th. Some people are incorrectly under the impression that the season ends tomorrow, the last day of February in this leap year. This is not so. The Open Seasons Order makes clear that the closing date is February 28th. Please pass this information on to your deer stalking colleagues.

Facebook. Most destructive media for hunting in Ireland. It'd be us, but y'know, Zuckerberg beat us to it.

So does the licence have precedence over the Open Seasons Order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

    Can't answer that LB6, I'm at work.

    Couldn't resist :)

To be more helpful, the Open Seasons Order, when talking about the close of deer seasons (the ones that close in february) just says:
ending on the last day of February

See SI 550 of 2005 for the Open Seasons order. It's been amended twice, but the amendments just deal with Muntjac deer, and their season ends on March 31.

The only Open Seasons order that mentions Feb.28 explicitly that I could find was SI 39/2011, the Wild Birds Open Seasons amendment order.

    But I don't hunt, so I wouldn't know - can deer fly?

Post by NARGC re 28th has been removed from the FB wall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

Well, if it was putting out incorrect information like that, it's probably a good thing to take it down, to be fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

And they've just printed a retraction on the FB wall as well, blaming the NWPS for causing the error by sending them incorrect information.

Has the error being fixed......it's not like information has been posted on purpose?????? from my initial reading the information was posted in a Bona fide manner.....go easy Lads

Oh come on CS, nobody's saying this is the end of the world or anything like that. Hell, I just said it explicitly two posts ago. Everyone makes mistakes, and they acknowledged and corrected this one; it's just that making this public a mistake on a legal matter the day after you spend a page of the Digest having a really rather rude rant at boards.ie for being idiots and bar-room lawyers, well it's going to make you the self-inflicted butt of a joke or two, and if folk can't accept that, they need to grow a better sense of humour.

The jumped the gun on this one but after a short while the deleted most of the posts and put up there reply the had changed it twice on the second one the admitted the made a mistake but deleted it again . If the had checked there hunting licence the could have saved this no one is perfect but the should have know better imo

I reckon for information on any deer stalking you go to a deer stalking organisation, the Wild Deer Association had this on their FB page, I said before what do the NARGC know or do for deer stalking? They should stick with gun clubs, which they do well!

NARGC = National Association of Regional Game Councils.

Do deer not come under the heading of GAME?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭Fallow01

In the UK deer do not come under the heading of game (Game Act), not sure about here.

If NARGC are about Game why are they always claiming everything hand guns in Ireland, can we hunt Game with hand guns?

Since they were formed in 1968 how many deer events have they held or when have they actually done anything to benefit deer or deer stalking? When most people think NARGC they think gun clubs! and despite some splits that is something they generally do well :) Sometimes rightly or wrongly when I read the ISD I get the feeling they want to take over the (shooting) world or at least claim that they did! Deer and Deer Stalking can take a lifetime to learn and not the latest fad or claim in world domination.

Depending on how you read it, it could seem petty that the NARGC facebook notice saying the 28th was the last day of the season came out the day after the Wild Deer Association's notice that the 29th was; but look - and if I can say this after the Digest, ye can at least read it - people make honest mistakes all the time, the NARGC is no exception. How you handle a mistake is the measure; and they put their hands up and owned this one when it was pointed out.

Fair's fair lads, kicking them after they put their hands up to something isn't being the bigger person about it. All it does is discourage them from handling the next mistake well.
