Where to go hiking? What to bring?

Planning on doing a 2 or 3 day hike with my 14 year old niece this summer.

She's been in the scouts for the past couple of years. I'm reasonably fit (play 5 aside once a week, and do two 5K runs a week, don't smoke and average weight). I have never done it before, although did climb carrauntoohil a couple of years ago (when I wasn't as fit).

I live in Clonegal, as you will know is the end of the Wicklow Way. I was thinking of doing a stretch of the Wicklow Way, but not sure where to start out. Where would be the most exciting, scenic and best walks?

Also, what essentials do I need, ie; What kind of tent etc.

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you were to do 2 days of the wicklow way and stay in hostel/B&B you probably would save yourself some money.

for 2 day walks like that:
i pair of broken in boots,
    2 pairs of hiking socks,
    bottle for water
    rain coat
    hats for sun or rain.
non denim pants, tracksuit bottoms or walking pants.

some sort of shoes for wandering around after the walk
for god sake don't forget the vaseline (prevents chafing)
toilet paper in case you are caught short.

some sort of clothes to wear in the evening
