every time you try to book a ticket online it comes back with :

It appears you have not selected a Journey.

Please ensure you have selected an Origin and a Destination from the Journey Planner.

youve changed the site and now its usless .

    Ever heard of TESTING ???

Has anyone noticed how the site returns a "sold out" message for 1st class tickets for trains which don't have any 1st class accommodation!

Surely the honest and correct way would be to state "no 1st class" rather than imply there is 1st class but that all on-line tickets are sold out?

Seems to work fine for me. I suspect the problem is you.

works fine for me too - i've had no problems buying tickets since they launched the new site.

try contacting them instead of going off on a rant and a rave over something you're obviously doing wrong.

Well if you were a little calmer rather than ranting maybe people might try to help.

It's working fine for me in both Safari and Explorer.

What are you using and where are you going?

OP, what train journey are you trying to book?

    Very helpful.

In fact, it's not alone the OP that has experience of this. A number of people have been in touch with the developers of the site and they are well aware of the issue. No ETA as to solution it seems.

Are you trying to access it from behind a firewall or through a proxy at work, OP?

    No need for this.

When you encounter such errors, can you take a screenshot and send it and an explanation of what happened to newirishrail@irishrail.ie ?

I booked a train ticket last night and set up a new account I have an O'bama type surname and it entered it as O ''Bama, anyone else get this? I was able to correct it afterwards in the "my account" section.

My dad had an another account set up since 2006 and I logged into that and it was O ''Bama which I also had to correct. I wanted to use that but his name was down it for billing, I wonder does it make a difference?

    Do you mean it changed:

    O'bama to
    O ''Bama ?

Obama not being your real name? Is the space after the "O" as it displayed it?

Have you tried this on a different computer, to discount the possibility that it is a character encoding issue? Otherwise, on you browser (Firefox) View -> Character Encoding -> Western and pick one or (Internet Explorer) View -> Encoding -> Western and pick one. If it persists, send an e-mail to the address above or to info ~at~ irishrail.ie

If you are using your father's account, you just have to set the ticket name in your name. The details would remain on your father's account though and he would get the confirmation e-mail. When you collect the ticket, they may ask to see the credit card that you used.

When I entered my name I entered it correctly as "O'Kelly" but on the next page it showed as "O ''Kelly" with a double apostrophe and a space. However the name displayed correctly on the passenger name but not on the account. I was able to correct it afterwards in the account. The older account also had "O ''Kelly" on it just like the new one and I was also able to edit that.

My browser was set correctly as you indicated and it is a pretty basic mistake that the Irish rail system by default cannot handle the O' that is is in so many Irish names. I understand foreign systems where I'd simply enter the name as OKelly, OBrien etc. or O Brien etc, the apostrophe always seems to cause trouble with they type of things.

Irish Rail have been aware of the problem since the start of the week, but it appears not to be readily repeatable.

Irish Rail are a bunch of disorganised, money-grabbing clowns, with such a tight gene pool you can hear the fúcking banjos playing in the train, I learned that when I was 15. FFS man, féck Irish Rail Dublin Bus ftw ;)

    No need for the abuse.

I shudder to think what you might have learned about Irish rail when you were 15? But I suspect it was not how to curse áss gaeilge:D

Here is one for the Crazy pricing records.

Train from Carlow to Ballina today booked online costs €60 one way but the same train taken from Kildare costs €26 a saving of €34 which is almost 3 times the adult single fare from Carlow to Kildare!

It would be cheaper to get a single from the station to Kildare for €12 and a return to Ballina from Kildare which costs €35

Could be that you have to cross an international border when you leave Carlow. There is a report in today's paper of a strange flag seen flying there. :pac:
