United have confirmed that the second flight that used to operate 4 times weekly during the peak season will not go ahead this year for operational reasons. This along with EI reducing it JFK service by one a week at peak times does not bode well for SNN.

Sorry, can't get the link to work.

they always seem to forget that Delta will be daily to JFK starting on 25th March

EI can't compete with their aircraft they should give up JFK and bring back Chicago

United would be from EWR, not JFK (not that it makes all that much of a difference, but still).

    http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/aer-lingus-weighs-737-9-max-alongside-a320neo-367493/

Aer Lingus is the process of deciding whether it will opt for Airbus's re-engined A320neo family or Boeing's 737-9 Max to increase fuel-efficiency on its transatlantic flights.

"We will wait 12 to 18 months [before deciding] in order to carry out a thorough analysis," said the airline's chief commercial officer Stephen Kavanagh. Although Aer Lingus's current fleet consists of Airbus jets, it is in open dialogue with Boeing, he added.

Given the large amount of orders being placed, uncertainty regarding available positions and timely deliveries is another concern for the airline. "We need to be convinced of the economics," said Kavanagh, who added the aircraft would be financed via operating lease or direct acquisition. "We're actively reviewing our options and are under no pressure."

Continental proved that there was markets for thinner routes using the 757-200. Maybe EI can open routes to Toronto, Montreal, a return to Newark, or along the east coast. and much like the 757, 16 in business and 160 in economy.

A no brainer really. Operating an A330 on SNN routes is probably madness. They could operate daily year round profitably with 739 or the NEO a320

SNN-JFK is about 3000nm, the NEO will have a range of about 3700nm I think

3000 miles range on a maximum seating and cargo. Reduce the seating and it extends the range of the aircraft. As I said it worked out really well for Continentals use of the 757.

Delta say those 757s that they use which are similer to United/Continental one's have a range of 4200 miles approx.
3700 miles range on a 3000 miles journey, I wonder if they hit major headwinds going west, will they end up like the 707/120s that EI, arriving over JFK on minimum fuel. Hopefully one of the pilots on boards will clarify for us.

Ha, never taught of comparing 757 to 707, gas, you just pointed out how little progression there has been in the industry in reality when using these a/c on long flights over water, and throw in a bit of wind.

These airlines also operate 757's to places like berlin, surely thats tighter than a hop from Ireland in a more modern, efficient but a lesser range a/c if there is weather probs

I have noticed over this winter schedule more B757's at Heathrow. Particularly with United and American Airlines. I suppose flights from Heathrow to east coast USA has become a shuttle service. More flights using smaller aircraft. Shoild be no problem from Shannon to the USA.

In the late 1990's BA said they were getting rid of the B767's. Today they are going for a cabin refurb. They will be around for some time yet I think. Currently they do shorthaul, the Carribean, Africa, India, east coast USA and west Canada.

I was more concerned about the 739 and NEOs range rather than the 757. The 757 already do SNN-JFK/EWR.

Only temporary refurbs until the 787's begin to come on stream.

The B767's will be around at least another 7 to 8 years. I did see BA's press release in 2007. Those 767's will be in service long past 2014. BA have had to bring 2 B747-400's back in service that were in retirement. I suppose the delay in delivery's is giving these aircraft another few years. I can't see why BA cant get 30 years service from the 747-400's and 767's.

    I know, completely of topic.

AC have their 763s for the same reason - 7late7.

I'd love to see EI at least give YYZ a go - a more interesting choice (though less convenient for me) would be YOW, since that airport has a lot less transatlantic and codeshares with WestJet would give a similar lowish cost experience. The question is can they compete head to head with AC and TS in the summer. There's a new air services agreement in effect but it doesn't seem to have done much for frequency or variety of carrier/destination - TS doing some YUL-DUB and less SNN stops is about it.
