    Hi Guys,

Quick q's - I got kicked in the throat in sparring last night. Don't think I've had this happen me before! Anyway, not looking for any medical advise, but it was like I was losing my voice last night, and feels like a sore throat this morning and voice quite crackily, like a touch of laringitis. I'm presuming this will just clear up by itself in a couple of days and no big deal?

Any advise appreciated / if happened to anyone before?

    Thanks!
    Simon

First up, you can't say you're not looking for advice and then finish up by asking for advice.

If it's just a bit sore then I'd give it a few days and see how it goes. If it doesn't clear up, or starts to get worse I would see a doc.

As in not medical advise, just general advise re has it happened to anyone before, nothing to worry about, or should I actually see a doctor. I'm guessing it's fine and nothing to worry about and will clear up by itself in couple days, but just bit freaky and never happened me before, so was hoping to get my mind put at rest by someone here who's experience of this...

Not been kicked to the throat but took a savage guillotine that left my throat feeling like i had the mumps. Should be grand after a couple days if its anything like that.

Same happened to me a few years back, it's hard obviously to say what damage has been done to you Simon, but I was left with pretty sore throat and neck for a few days. I would say and in no ways is this professional advice you've suffered some impact trauma to your vocal chords and trachea so they're going to be a bit out of sync. I was left talking like the pizza delivery boy from the Simpsons for a few days.

Having said that you'll know best and if you have any concerns as they guys say, go get it checked for peace of mind,

Sounds like you've bruised some of the muscles in your larynx. This will result in some changes in phonation and the sound of your voice.

you could probably try icing the region and maybe putting some anti-inflammatory cream topically (onto the skin) around the throat.

only in tkd could you get a kick in the throat, where was your chin?

It took a kick in the throat to teach you to avoid being hit?.

Every time I train I try avoid being hit, thrown, choked or sub'ed :D

The health and fitness forum has a "no medical advice" policy, I'm beginning to think we should bring it over here as well.

I think this thread has gone as far as it's going to go, and all you're going to get is a bunch of conflicting advice, with no way of knowing who actually knows what they're talking about. I'm going to close it.
