Add extra stop to Annual Rail Ticket?

I need to add an extra stop to my annual rail ticket.
Work is telling me I'll need to cancel my current ticket and apply for a new one but I can't do this until the end of March.

An inspector on the train this morning said he will confiscate my ticket if I try to use it from the new station again.

Has anyone had to do this?
Are there any allowances made for this kind of thing?

    thanks

Why can't you cancel the ticket until the end of march? If you are adding a station will they not just refund the unused months and use the amount as credit for your new extended ticket?

    Hi,

Work only renew tickets a few times a year, the next ticket date is 1st April.

Also, tickets are paid for over 10 months and because my ticket will only have two months left, it's already paid for so I don't get any refund.
So I'll effectively lose those two months.

At this stage it looks like my best option is to keep my ticket until June and get monthly tickets for the extra stop but that's €100/month, which is a bit of a killer.

Very simple phone Taxsaver explain the situation and they may be able to change the ticket for the cash difference between the one you have and the one you need.

They are surprisingly helpful about these things normally

I phoned them, they said I'd just need to buy the extra ticket until I apply for a new one.

I'm suprised they don't have some process for dealing with this, I would imagine it happens a lot.

inspector has no reason to confiscate your ticket. He does have a right to fine you though.

how is there an 'extra stop'?

you should have no problem returning your ticket and getting a new ticket. I'm doing the same this month.

as for ticket paid over 10 mths...thats not true. The cost of the annual ticket is 10 times that of a monthly (so you get effectively 2 free months). Realistically you pay 10/12ths of the monthly cost for each month. Think of it as a bulk discount.

    Hi,

    Thanks for all the replies.

The extra station is because I used to get on a Kildare but now need to get on at Monasterevin. My ticket is Heuston to Kildare.

I've been told by HR that I won't get a refund for the two free months.

obviously they wont refund for something that was free of charge, you will just have to pay the extra until you get a new annual ticket!

Need to or have just decided to take a chance and bunk on a stop early? By rights the Inspector should have fined you the full standard fare. Either pay the additional fare or get a lift to Kildare.

Dublin Coach does a €2 fare each way from Monasterevin to Kildare! The railway station in Kildare is a short walk from the Bus stop

The ticket remains properly of the CIE group and can be retained where it had been abused eg fare evasion.

They do, and you've discovered it. Follow it.

Sorry to be so harsh, but it sounds like you're not being totally logical about it. You bought and annual ticket, for a substantial discount (you paid no PAYE or PRSI on the cost), and it comes with conditions. This year, you lose. Others, you won't.

You won't get a refund, but you might get a discount on the upgrade / full price annual ticket you intend to buy. This may be HR or the individual staff member in Taxsaver not understanding the nuance.

Not quite "free". Shay has paid the full price that was asked of him. That an annual ticket is not 12 times the price of a monthly ticket doesn't not make some of his journeys 'free'.

how about get a monasterevin to kildare monthly return?

then u have a valid ticket for your journey(s)

also -there are no "free" months. The annual ticket is cheaper than buying 12 monthly tickets (coincidentally by the cost of 2 monthly tickets)....but there are no freebies.

your taxsaver person is probably(not every company does it this way) paying all ticket fees upfront -some pay them on a monthly basis
