Hi all, just looking for a bit of advice here.I'm receiving saorview via a rooftop aerial, and normally get a signal of 90-95%.However,the signal usually drops once or twice a day, down to 0% for no reason and then comes back to normal again after anything from 5 minutes to an hour.Anyone know why this happens,or is it something as simple as a loose connection up on the roof.Thanks.

Don't know much about this so not sure about this response.

At the start I got a TV aerial installed attached to the chimney - the reception was good for a while but then disappeared. I then got Sky so gave up on the aerial.

Recently I got Saorview installed. The installer checked the Saorview signal in the attic and it was good. Got to the TV and it was gone.

Turns out in the attic there are 3 cables going to 3 TV points and an amplifier was used. This turned out to be dodgy and that fixed the Saorview.

So could be something like that not working in your attic?

Ive noticed for the past few weeks the signal quality on ch 48 from Maghera has dropped back 10/20% from a regular high of 100%.
Anyone else having similar issues from the same.tx site?

Anyone watching the rugby on Saorview from ch. 48 Maghera? Massive picture breakup, quality intermittently jumping from 100% back to 10/20%. Now stable for the last 5mins.

What part of the country are you in? Did you previously have good reception of the UK Freeview channels?

Where are you located and how many aerials do you have to receive the Irish and UK channels?

If you are receiving the UK freeview channels from NI not all the transmitters are switched to digital and those that are won't go full power until Oct 24th.

Best thing would be to wait until after switchover on October 24th, the full power Freeview transmissions might sort you out or at least give you a better signal to work with.

It's probably optimised for Brougher Mountain in Tyrone & also takes in the much more powerful & nearby Cairn hill transmitter in Longford.

It's probably actually facing north east towards the Divis mast near Belfast.

I'm guessing from the name you're in Limerick and getting reception from woodcock hill - me too and I'm experiencing the exact same thing.

Anyone else getting reception from woodcock hill notice the same?

I've got a rood top aerial connected to a multiswitch - usually quality is about 90% but does on occasion drop to 0% for a second or two and then back to 90% - very distracting/annoying

Could be local interference or even overload if the aerial system has enough gain. Or maybe just poor installation.

If reception was OK up until now it could be a transmitter problem/maintenance or possibily the weather.

    Give Saorview/RTÉNL a call - http://www.saorview.ie/contact/

So if an aerial is getting "too good" a signal this can cause problems?

Getting a bit fed up with saorview. Can go from perfect reception to freezing, breaking up , "no signal", poor sound , "no video"........maybe not all together but some of these are a regular occurrence. We cannot look at even a short programme without some of these issues, and have given up on trying to look at films. Too many interruptions.

We think our aerial is ok, because rte1/2, tv3,tg4 work perfectly on analogue, as well as being able to pick up the northern Ireland uk channels, albeit not with perfect reception.

If you're receiving Saorview from Clermont Carn, it won't be at its best until after switchover in October.

Good analogue reception from there is no guarantee of reliable Saorview.

Yes, receivers or amplifiers can be overloaded by an overly strong signal.

Problem(seems to be) solved now. We retuned the tv and it is now showing CH53 where it used to show CH54. So I guess it picked up a different and better mast or something changed on the existing mast.

Channel 53 is used by Clermont Carn, 54 by Kippure & Three Rock. I wouldn't count on your reception remaining good until after switchover.

Clermont Carn would seem to be the more appropriate as we live on the North side of Drogheda....surprised to see that we were getting a signal from Kippure/Three Rock. Aren't they in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains general area?
