bringing the family to sicily in july. mt etna has erupted twice already this year leading to catania airport being closed. soooo can anyone suggest a good policy that'd mean quibble free cover in the event of an eruption?

Agent smith, my compliments. I was actually thinking about that episode as I composed my plea. Unlike Lois though, my.missus thinks it's a good idea! Anyone with any REAL help ;)

I think a volcano eruption falls under 'Acts of God' so the insurance companies would be doing their best to wriggle out of any claim on that one.

Chances of a volcano eruption are less than you been struck by lightening in any case so I wouldn't worry about too much in any case.

Some Irish travel insurance companies now cover this as an optional extra under the heading of travel disruption.

That's my point in my original post- it HAS erupted twice already this year, leading to catania airport being closed. Thanks for the replies everyone !
