Just wondering if anyone has any packing tips for girls specifically, what did you bring that wasn't used, why couldn't you live without...

Going through Asia and South America so different climates and nightmare to try to pack into a 55L rucksack!!

    Sweet baby Jesus!!

I didn't bring anything special. A thing to keep money around my waist, a waterproof pouch (that I never used). I just packed some clothes and a coat. Coat was only because I was going to cold countries first. If I'd been going to hot countries first I would have bought it along the way.
I'll try to find a good blog post on what to pack. Many travel bloggers like to write about what is in their bags. Some even take videos on themselves packing!

What's wrong with that bad boy? Backpacking is not a fashion show you know.

What's wrong is the fact it's 100L and would break her back if she filled it!

Thanks dory, i have a 55l backpack got, i am not the type to just be able to pack a few clothes and head off, i am like this for every trip I take but the longest I have done before is 1 month so the control freak in me is totally taking over for this trip :D

    so far i have:
    1 raincoat
1 long sleeve top (for trekking in Nepal 3 weeks into the trip)
Base layer top and pants for trekking
2 pairs of sandals for daytime and nightime wear
1 pair canvas shoes where sandals won't cut it
1 pair of long light trousers
3 baggy loose tshirts covering shoulders
    3 vest tops
    2 pairs shorts
    2 bikinis
    1 going out dress

other stuff i am thinking of getting:
2 pairs of 3/4 length pants - dark colours
    1 pair denim shorts
    1 other going out dress
    2 pairs leggings
    good expensive flip flops

    non clothes:
    sleeping bag liner
    torch
    travel towel
    army knife

then after that just few bits of cosmetics. have a pair of hiking boots that are really comfy but don't think i can jusify carrying them for over 4 months to wear for 4 treks!!

    any tips greatly appreciated!

I feel your pain, i packed and unpacked about a thousand times before i left home, and still hated all my clothes after about 3 weeks :)

Sounds silly but i really recommend bringing a denim skirt. They're so versatile, especially if you're caught unawares at a beach party in Thailand!

Also, i would bring one more going out dress and maybe a going out top?

I got by with just 1 pair of trekking boots and 1 pair of flipflops, you can buy flipfops 10 a penny in Asia and Havianas are only about E5 in Brazil.

Dont bother with cosmetics really, you will pick up shampoos etc on the road.

I'd bring a waterproof fold away daypack if i were you. My pal brought one and it was a lifesaver! Something similar to this -http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fold-Away-Pocket-Rucksack-Backpack-Waterproof-NEW-/190445167951

Definitely bring the leggings, they're super handy and if you can throw in the 3/4 lengths do.

You'l have a hoolie, so jealous! Wish i was back on the road hehe :)

I second bringing something a bit dressy, you will wish you did.....and I would forget about the boots, my friend went travelling for a year and brought boots which she wore once and carried around the rest of the time (including during the Inca Trail where she wore her canvas runners)....Maybe a pair of trecking runners would be better.
