    Hi There,

I am looking to put together a small studio. I currently own the following equipment:

    Mac
    Pro-tools 9
    ILock
An assortment of mics and stands etc
15 or so XLR's and jacks.

i know that Pro-tools 9 isnt fussy about what interface it uses, what desk would you recommend? digital or analogue?... or should i use a desk at all?... maybe just a serious of inputs direct into pro-tools?

ideally i am looking for about 16 inputs, so my bands and other bands can track whole songs live.

Any recommendation on headphone amps and extendsion and splitters?

    anything im missing?...

Thanks you and sorry for the vague nature of the thread, im not 100%sure of all this myself!!

    Ro

probably easier to use a desk-style interface, since you're planning on tracking live bands and it's easier to set up cue mixes on a console. So, one of those USB or FireWire interface + desk in one with 16 channels methinks.

could ya give me an example of what your talking about? like a link from thomann ro something?

sorry to be a pain, im pretty clueless about the techy side of things...

What kind of budget have you set yourself?

You need a decent set of monitors, and room treatment. A decent set of headphones for reference mixes are handy too. If you're tracking live bands, a snake might be handy depending on the size of the room and length of cables

For that kind of budget, I'd look at a decent interface with ADAT, and something like the focus rite Octopre which hooks up through ADAT, and there's 16 channels of clean pres into protools.

As far as monitors go, I'd recommend a used set of Adam A7X's, or if you're really on a stuck budget, the Yamaha hs50's. The Adams are amazing though.

This is a good point. While it was sold as no longer requiring an Avid box, its compatibility is not as universal as one might assume.

It's a good idea to get an interface with ADAT anyway, as you can then expand your IO later. M-Audio do offer good bang for the buck, and as they are owned by Avid, should be fine for Pro Tools compatibility...
