Hi guys, looking to do an oil and filter change on my car, but I'm finding it hard to get a 36mm socket anywhere for the oil filter - there's one in a H-related motor retailer, but that's a bit of a spin. Will a strap filter wrench do it, has anyone managed it with that?

    Thanks.

Try wrap a rag around it with the filter wrench if your really stuck for a socket.

I got the one in said shop, but they should have one in any builders providers etc.

Incidentally the one in aforementioned shop is good quality, have it a couple of years now.

Just get the right tool for the job and don't risk making a balls of it. Loads of motor factors will have the 36mm oil filter housing socket. They are used on loads of cars, from BMW to Ford to VW/Audi.

Managed to source a lend today, got the job done this evening. Thanks all for advice, the socket made it much easier - I had been to a motor factors yesterday and was quoted 70 euro for one. Yes. Will try the other motor supplies option and get one for the toolbox.

That's in the back of my mind to get done shortly. It's straightforward enough by the sounds of it?

Jesus, was it made of gold or something?

I think the one in Halfords was 12e or something.

The breather is easyish when you are prepared for it, allow a good bit of time the first time you try it though and change the air filter while you're at it :)
