Best value cycle computer?

Until now I've been using my iPhone with the strava app to log my cycles, but it's slightly irritating that I have to leave it in my pocket and also that it won't measure HR or cadence without buying overpriced sensors and draining the battery faster.

I'd like to get a computer with HRM and cadence to train better with and was wondering what the best value computer to go with is? The Polar CS200cad has all the features I want at £121.99, and I'd still have strava recording on my iPhone in my pocket, but is it worth the extra ~£100 to get the garmin edge 500 bundle with the same features just so I can share it on strava and overlay the performance data on the map/elevation data?

Are there any other cycle computers worth looking at?

    Colm

Personally I'd say yes, if only to (hopefully) have phone battery remaining instead of being stranded but knowing that at least my path was logged :)

Having said that, I have only had that happen once - barely enough battery for one phone call "meet you at x petrol station 30 mins" but the Garmin is well worth it regardless.

It's only £60 extra for the Edge 500 bundle (gps, hr, cadence) if you buy through Handtec.co.uk Bought mine from them, as did many on here.

Ah yeah it's considerably cheaper with them alright!

I'd say if you are looking for a computer with GPS then go for the Garmin Edge 500, it's a beast of a machine!

If you're not too bothered about GPS and just want the numbered data, a nice computer would be something like the Cateye Strada.

If you have an iPhone, I'd get the Garmin ANT+ dongle for it and buy the Garmin Fit app (€0.79) or similar so you can use the Garmin speed/cadence and HR monitor with it, or any other ANT+ compatible ones.

Then if you decide to upgrade down the line (still not enough data or want a power meter etc) you can buy a standalone Edge 500/800/910XT or something.
