I called Sky today about the introduce a friend offer. Its 50 euro cash back for my friend who has sky already. But they told me i had to pay an install fee of 30euro. I told him its free online. sky said they can give me the free on online but not will the 50 euro cash back.

So basically im giving my friend 30 euro and sky gives him 20? is this right

Standard install is €30 which you pay, after about 90 days your friend should get a cheque for €50, although I've yet to meet anyone who ever got that money.

Better for you to order through http://www.fatcheese.ie/merchant/?site=Sky+Ireland and get the money yourself. The site says offer ended 23 Feb but I think there's a new one running now.

when I got sky I got that introduce a friend offer, got two months free, the deal was that I had to pay for the box but when I talked with them on the phone I got it for free. I had to pay a 30 euro installation fee since I don't have a landline.

I received the €50 but only after pestering them for months. The cheque they sent me was drawn on a UK bank so I think I ended up with about €35.

Probably cost you the €35 in phonecalls to them while trying to get your cheque.

I looked at all the options.

I went via the introduce a friend for my new install. My friend (eventually) after ringing up etc, got a cheque, and then I had to pay 30 extra for the install. I must ask him did he get the 50 euro when the cheque was lodged.

For the hassle, you need their account number, or card number, waiting for cheque etc, then the fact that your friend recommended a 12 month min contract it's probably not worth recommending to friends.

I did get 2 months free too (ask for that) but yes, it's a bit of a con. 50 euro to one person but the other person needs to pay 30 extra, and no guarantee you will ever get the 50 euro cheque.

At least it's not like the UK where they give vouchers etc.

Also they have a big push on now because they want people to sign up for 1 year, as loads of people will hear about Saorview/Freesat which carries most of the basic channels for free anyway.

It's not much of a "friend" that recommends people sign up to contracts that could work out as thousands, only for their friend to end up paying 30 more than they need to. The other person gets 50 for "recommending them" but the 50 is basically a bribe from Sky to try convince your friend it's a good deal, even though your friend would be better going direct and saving 30 euro install.
