folks, i really need some help here! i am currently in employment however, i am looking at some ideas for a business and hopefully get something which i feel will work and run with it.
heres my predicament: if i feel i need to go full time at my business idea to develop it but the business could sink or swim and/or it may be a while before i possibly make anything from the business or it may be some time before the business is up and running, if i quit my job to go full time at this, am i entitled to any state benefit whilst i try to get myself up and running? obviously i need to keep myself going in the meantime so this is a concern for me. also is there any help out there besides the obvious enterprise boards/ EI? for example incubation centres etc?

    Many thanks in advance:confused:

There is a 9 week exclusion from claiming JSB/JSA for those who voluntarily quit their jobs or are fired.

There is a benefit for those on welfare looking to set up their own business called BTWEA:

If you quit your job and you're not available for full time work then you wouldn't be able to get jobseekers although this could be different for JBS, and self employed folk can get some kind of payment if their business is not genorating income (thinking of artists) but can't help you about the start up

No State Benefit if you voluntarily leave your employment. You should thoroughly research your project before thinking of chucking the job. Make contact with your local Enterprise Board, local Development Agency, and establish what kind of assistance they can give. Factor in the fact that most new businesses fail within 1 year. And don't forget to approach your Bank either. Have a good read of the Entreprenuerial & Business Management forum in the Business Section of Boards. Best of luck with your plans.
