    Hi All

This was meant to be a good weekend first race in Tralee good place to open the legs and see if what i had done for the last 4 months was working.

But on my way to sign on i was directed into a car park with a height restriction and my bike was on the roof my lovely Argon 18 gallium was destroyed. Now with no race bike i need options i have a tiny budget of about €800 to get a new race frame group set survived the crash as well as the wheels so a frame is all i need.

Any recommendations please as i need to get this sorted ASAP

crashoveroid - what size frame do you need and would you consider second hand?

Somebody out there might have something suitable if you are going the second hand route.

Saw one of these built up at the race in Dundalk yesterday - looked great!

Sorry to hear about the accident ..... it's one of those things that could so easily happen to any one of us!!

+1. Hard to believe no one arranged to have it open for the day especially as there are many vans and mini busses at races. Worse still the marshal who directed you into it. Hard luck, but I guess its a mistake you only make once and hopefully you will have reminded others by posting.

Happened to me last year (or was it the year before). But fortunately my bike rack gave way and my bike is part alu so it survived. Bike never going on the roof ever again. Hope you find something soon.

I'm very happy with my Canyon Ultimate AL frameset which cost about €600 from the outlet.

You should be able to get a new one with carbon seatpost for not much more, with a racing discount.

Destroyed a TCR frame a few years back the same way - know exactly how it feels and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Happy to give the PX RT-57 a +1 too. A few of the lads in the club have picked them up recently and have had the chance to sit up on one of em and give it a bash. Builds pretty light and is definitely a stiff piece of carbon so should race well.

EDIT - Just as an outside of the regular suspects option, you could eye up the Ribble Stealth - doesn't look bad at all, specs and weight look good. Looks like frame, fork and headset come in at €699 ex delivery. Got well reviewed too.

    Remember watching that !!
3 of us shouting and waving like mad (I think you just thought we were very friendly !!).

OP the Planet X frames are good value and although not the most beautiful (esp compared to the Argon) would be a good immediate solution.

Feel for you man. Did the same with two bikes on the roof a few years ago. Bikes survived fine though. Roof was a 3 grand insurance repair unfortunately :(

What size frame you looking for.

If it's a 55/56 then I've been pimping this all over the place since I bought it.

It's gone up from 499 to 505 now for some reason.... but I think it's unbeatable for the money.

    Here's mine built up.

Dolan Hercules frameset is £599. Given the ubiquity of them, you could pick one up in any major town in Ireland reasonably quickly.

They are nice and comfy, not very light however. Also they will be a fiar bit more flexy (I imagine) than the Argon.

Bummer! This won't answer your question nor ease your pain but I have the Saris Bones 3 Bike Rack which I find to be excellent. I have transported 2 road bikes at times and up to 3 mountain bikes on other occasions with it.

The Planet X N2A will be on sale in the next 3-4 weeks, frame and fork will retail at €850

National Junior road and TT champ, Ryan Mullen, was riding one yesterday in Dundalk, looked really good in the flesh.

Congratulations on the use of the word ubiquity!! very under used and we don't often see it in here. There's a lot of scrabble points to be had there
Shame you couldn't spell the word fair (fiar). :D 100 lines and stand in the corner.

I saw the accident yesterday. Tough luck.

The car behind you was beeping away to alert you to the fact but to no avail. Things like that could happen to any of us so the barrier shouldn't have been there in the first place. They took down the barrier soon after that. It is pretty embarrasing too with a hundred other competitors looking on as it happened.

Hope you get sorted with a new frame soon

Thats a pirty but you should get a cheap frameset handy enough to get you going.
That's why I went for a ball-hitch carrier rather than a roof one - it would happen to me eventually.
You can't blame the organisers though - it would be like blaming them for potholes.

Tribikes of Limerick and Loughrea are selling own carbon frame design for around €900. Checked it out recently as my son damaged his carbon frame in a crash (I managed to get it repaired).

The frame is sprayed up and seems fairly light but beyond that 'caveat emptor'.

Had two bikes end up on the road a few years back, having forgotten to put in the security pin on a tow bar mounted bike rack, .........so man I feel your pain!

Well its been an interesting week to say the least.

First thing was to find a frame and with no budget that was a tough call i ended up going for the Ridley Orion frame is cycle super store it has not arrived yet but i will build it up and post a pic once done should look well with super record only issue i for see is the angles i will need a 140mm stem with a -17 angle thank you 3T. Only thing i have not confirmed is the seatpost size if any Orion owners out there could please let me know?

As well my old frame has shipped to the UK to http://www.fibre-lyte.co.uk/ who said they will be able to fix it as well as spray it back to my original colors. I will let you know how this works out.

Thanks to everyone for the reply's and PM's and the recommendations.:)

For future reference for anyone there is now a company in Dublin doing carbon repairs. They come from kayaking background but stand by their frame repairs. Nice to have something like this available locally:

Facebook page (their own website still focusses on the kayaking side)
