    Hi people,

Not really, no wait i have no interest in my course and am thinking of dropping out altogether, im fed up. What will be the results if i drop out like higher fees if i wanna enroll in a new course again? I got a grant this year to for my first year in college. Will this affect anything?

I also failed all my exams and i was absent for 3 of them, which is gonna cause a lot of problems.

If you drop out now, or anytime before the end of the year, you will be liable to pay full fees for the first year of any new college course you begin in the future. The cut off date for half fees was 31st Jan so even if you drop out tomorrow you will still have to pay full fees next time you start a first year. You only have to pay fees for the first year, the rest will be free.

If you re-enter college again you will not be eligible for a grant for your first year. The grant works the same way as free fees - you only get one go at it for each year of your college career. Again with the free fees, from 2nd year onwards you would be able to get your grant again.

If you drop out now, and then go back to 3rd level, you will pay for full EU fees for 1st year + won't get your grant. But then once you go into 2nd/3rd/4th etc you go back to paying registration fee's and receiving your grant like normal.

Think about it carefully, can you see yourself lasting 3 or 4 years? if you really hate your course and don't see yourself completing the degree then it's better to drop out now and do a different course.

Talk to your course head, there could be ways of transferring (either in DCU or other colleges) to another course if you pass first year. Saves yourself dropping out and loosing a year.

You've paid for the year, my advice is to stick at it and try and pass all the exams for first year, then decide what you want to do.

In the same situation...I'm also thinking of dropping out, but I'm going to finish the year. Could there actually be ways of transferring courses within DCU? I love dcu but just hate my course.

Why do you hate your course? What were you studying?
